hi there guys,
how are you?
i was just wandering are " hooker headers "for l98 engines any good?

are they one of the better performers out there apart from tpis headers?

which would be better?

i have the chance to buy a set of hookers for $800.00 aus dollars!

how much do hooker headers normally sell for new?

could i get about 20 hp at the fly wheel with them?

where can you buy hookers from new any way?

are they tuned headers as well?

any comments would be much appreciated and help ful in deciding my mind up!
thanks

You should see 15rwhp from the addition of any LT. There are no real performance difference between TPiS or Hooker. The difference is in ease of installation and perfect fitment. Here we can get them for about $700 US, from Summit Racing.

TPIS is only available from them:

www.tpis.com

Hooker's are available at:

www.summitracing.com

and

www.jegs.com

That's for mail order.

They come in 2149, which has emissions equipment. Or 2151, which does not have emissions equipment.

From what I've read, the TPIS ones are very easy to install. They're a little more than the Hookers.

Both usually come ceramic coated.

and don't the TPIs headers come with the front Y-pipe so they hook right up to the rest of your exhaust system.

Tpis headers emissions legal $750 coated with Y-pipe

hooker emissions legal coated headers from summit hok-2149hkr $529, Y-pipe #16720hkr $169. = $698.

Yes, they come with the front y-pipe. I believe the Hooker system does not include the front y-pipe.

Hooker 16720 is the Ypipe for either 2149 or 2151. $700 is going to be the total price, headers + Y.

hi there guys,
thanks for the great info and help r.e headers!
i appreciate it very much!
cheers

either ones i installed in less than 4 hours :D both fit good.

Edmond is right. the Hookers don't come with the front Y pipe either order the extra Y pipe or have a muffler shop do a custom front Y pipe.

only difference i noticed between the TPiS and Hookers are TPiS can come in 1 3/4 primaries and 3" secondaries. Hookers are 1 5/8" primaries and 2 1/2" secondaries. depending on how far you are gonna mod the TPiS setup would be better if you want 400+ rwhp.

Mic,

From what I recall, you managed to score your TPIS headers used, right?

That's what I'm looking for. You don't see too many of them used but they do pop up here and there every other blue moon.:L

Hookers and TPiS are both 1 3/4" primary.

They do not make the 1 5/8" anymore, havent for years.

yes i think i payed 250 w/ front Y pipe :D

I disagree. Hookers are tuned headers, that being, all 4 tubes are very closely kept to the same length, which produses a scavenge effect from the pusle of one cylinder pulling the next along with it, exiting the collector very quickly. There just isn't anything quite like the power of a set of Hookers, in my opinion. They pull hard as hell to whatever rpm you want to spin it to, rhrumpa!!

And that's all that we ask for! :D

What's your engine's mod level and what are your plans?

Buy as many sets as you want. Here's a link: http://www.holley.com/index.asp?division=Hooker

Feel free to ask questions of the tech guys, that's what they're there for.

For a dealer, click the "where to buy".

Hey, does that front Y pipe work with other brands of headers.....or just the Hookers?

I had a set of hookers put on my car at the beginning of the year and have been happy ever since. I noticed it really woke up the car. You can't go wrong with a hooker :ugh
