I`ve used Armorall in the past and I was scared off by a fellow Vette owner at a show to never use it.He told me that is makes your interior finish have a yellow tint.Is this true?He was using Pledge on everything even on the inside of his hood.lIs this fellow right or is that just one persons expieriance.
Thanks BBF

Thanks Sherry. I do use leather cleaner for my seats and I have used Armorall.I believe that if it was that bad Armorall wouldn`t have been around all these years.:)

Armorall

Definitely not a good thing on leather!! I only use Saddle Soap to clean my leather seats.

Now ... I have heard stories too about Armorall. I have heard not to use it on your dash or tires. Something to do with the sun and heat. They say it will cause the dash and tires to crack within time.

But ... this is just something I have heard. I use a product made by Pennzoil called Z3 on my dash and all plastic and a tire cleaner for the rubber. And lots of :drink.

:w

Armorall is great i use the armorall wipes all the time on my dash and for my leather seats i use the armorall leather seat wipes. They work great and save lots of time. I recommend them highly!

I stay away from Armorall and instead use 303 Aerospace Protectant on the dash, weatherstripping, etc. 303 leaves a subtle sheen on everything as compared to the slick, greasy look of Armorall, plus it provides a UV protectant...important especially on the dash!

I have heard from two expert detailers, to never use Armorall especially on the dash as the chemicals will cause drying and cracking, just the thing many think it will prevent. Personally I don't like all the shine and I think it attracts dust, so not having used it, I do not have personal experience, just wanted to share what those two had told me.

I was told never to use Armorall on the Weather-stripping. Apparently it will make the soft rubber harden prematurely. Use Silicone based cleaners or spray only. I don't think it will hurt plastic like your dash board etc. I do know that it causes a light film to build up on the inside of the windshield in hot weather. This is from the gases given off from the plastic dash when Armorall is used and it gets hot. I don't use Armorall at all on my vettes interior. Under the hood Yes it's a great degreaser and lub.

I used Armorall on a previous vehicle (not a vette) and the dash started cracking when I didn't armorall it for a couple of months. It seems as long as you keep applying the armorall regularly, it's fine. But otherwise, it makes it dry out and crack.

Armorall is a silicone-based product!

I do use leather seat wipes. Not Armorall, the only thing I use Armorall with my Vette is the doors and kick panels. Anybody else heard of using Pledge?

I use the Tannery leather interior cleaner. Works great!

Elaine. Your right! ArmorAll is silicone based. What I use is pure silicone spray for the weatherstripping. I was told not to use anything but Silicone spray on the soft weathersripping. I miss printed by saying Silicone "based" in my description.

I applaud all of you that religiously stay away from the silicone based protectants.

They attract dust.

When I was using Armour-All a few years back, I could swear that my dash grew a beard.

The main thing most people don't think about when selecting cleaning products are the inert ingredients. By that I mean chemicals such as carriers, dryers, and in the case of aerosal spray cans the propellant. All of this either mixes in solution with the product, or is expelled at the time of dispensing.
Example: using a silicone agent on the rubber or vinyl trim or door/window seals. The silicone is dispensed either directly to the surface, or onto the cloth that is being used to wipe the surface. That's OK. However, the drying agent is the culprit here, it is usually a volitile agent and that is what attacks the vinyl or rubber causing premature curing. Therefore, using a cleaner or protectant that is dispensed from a hand activated spray bottle would be preferrable to an aerosal can.
The same goes for just about any cleaner or other agent that one may use around the vehicle. The bottom line is before purchasing the product, read the ingredients, not just the active ingredients, but also the inert components, and the type propellant if the product is in an aerosal format. If you haven't done this in the past, you will be amazed as to what we are shooting around everytime we push that little button.

Another side affect I noticed when I used Armor-All back in the day was the tires would get a brown tint to them over time. Haven't used it in better than 10 years and never will again.
