Seeking wisdom here once again, I'm wondering if anyone has changed out the Bose amplified units in the front doors,(one of mine isnt working) and the ones behind the seats as well, with aftermarket units, retaining the stock head unit ( I have the optional 12 disc changer in the storage compartment) Any improvement in sound quality??? I'm working on a stealth box for the 10 inch sub.... all ideas are welcome..... many thanks...Chris

Not trying to hijack Chris' thread, but I've been thinking along the same lines. However, I was wondering if anybody upgraded the stock Delco radio/cass/12pkCD to the unit with the Navi system built in. Cost etc appreciated.

I had something like your problem Chris. The thing is, you can't use other speakers with the Bose system. Since each speaker has it's own "so called amp" U either have 2 replace with the same kind of speaker that's bad or redo it all. I wanted 2 keep the factory radio but replace/upgrade my speakers. The problem is the head unit wouldn't work with anything available like a seperate amp, speakers, etc. I ended up having 2 replace everything! Head unit, speakers, rewire all speakers, amps, everything! It seemed better than trying 2 fix it now and worry about it going out agian. Much better now:)

I recently removed all my factory stereo stuff. The Nav head units are kinda big so if you don't mind modifying your dash alittle they are nice. The bezel will need 2 be cut up some and maybe have 2 move or loose some things like the storage area, ashtray, under the AC controls. I went with an Alpine that does MP3's and Bluetooth. Very happy so far:) I have all Soundstream amps & sub. I got less than a grand into but I got a great deal, plus I helped build it all. If U want U can check it all out at audiofxaustin.com - Content and go to the bottom and look at recent cars done or team car gallery and see the black vette. Lots of work and not very easy with these cars. I respect those who do customizing work for a living :beer

Mounting a sub in the trunk.

I have soldered audio cables to the speaker terminals on my rear speakers in my vette, thus using the ioriginal nput speaker wires as a source to get audio to my sub. I then took these two newly soldered wires, used matching impedance transformers, one for each channel, to couple the inputs to the subwoofer amplifier via the audio high level inputs. I wired the subwoofer amp directly to the battery, (plus and minus), made a custom cover with a 12 inch cutout to replace the cover over the 12 disc cd changer module, and mounted my 12 inch sub in the trunk. It looks and sounds great. You can place the original cover over the sub or purchase a chrome cover to cover the sub. Just tweek your crossover, input level, eq etc and you have great sound using your existing BOSE system. :upthumbs
