The shifter on my 95 auto tranny is near impossible to engage if it is cold outside and the car has set for a while.
I push the lock release button on the shifter and it won't pull back.
If I sit with my foot on the brake and keep pressure on the button it works in 5-10 seconds and I can then pull it out of Park position.
If the car has run for a few minutes and I shift back into park, it then works almost normally the next time but you can still feel a slight resistance on the shifter button.
the colder it is and the longer the car has sat without running, the more difficult it is to engage the shifter.
Is there some way to adjust it or is a worn/broken part issue somewhere in the shifter linkage?
The Haynes manual is not all that helpful in this are
Thanks

I know it's not the same kind of car, but I have a Ford ZX2 that will do the same thing. It's not impossible to shift it right away but it's more difficult. I think just like engine oil, the tranny fluid thickens up when it gets cold. Thus making it more difficult to shift into drive. Just my .02 cents though. Good luck with it!
