Help! auto trans leak

I just had the Automatic Transmission Shift Shaft Seal replaced on my 1980 Corvette L48. My garage guy told me that whoever replaced the seal before I bought the car damaged the housing where seal fits on the shaft and therefor the new seal he put in is leaking again. Does anyone have any Idea how this can be repaired or will I just have to live with the leak.

Without a picture it is a little tough to understand what is going on. OK, I am assuming that the leak is between the housing and the new seal, not the seal and the tail shaft. If the housing is not missing a major chunk I would replace the seal again and silicon the housing and seal interface then go from there. If you are missing a chunk of the housing without a picture it is anyone's guess.

Trans Leak

Thanks Frank for the reply. The seal that I'm talking about is the one where the shift shaft goes into trans on the passenger side that the shift linkage attaches to. The guy that put the new seal in said that whoever replaced this seal in the past scored the housing where the seal goes into. He did silicone the new seal when he put it in but it is still leaking.

If it just scored I would remove the seal clean out all the old silicon and clean with a good degreaser. Then silicon the housing and the seal with a nice thin coat on both. Let it cure for 5 minutes before installing the seal. You can always add a bead around the seal and housing. Let total cure for 6 hours before you use it. O

just curious what transmission Is in your car?

I believe it is the TH350c trans.
