I know this sounds silly and pretty basic, but how do you remove the shift knob on a 1994 Corvette with automatic trans. I am trying to replace the console plate and boot. Any help would be greatly appreciated, even just a hint.

The button pops out. with a sharp tool underneath is a snap ring which is holding on the knob

Take 2 small screwdrivers and gently pry on the sides or the button, it will come up. Underneath there is a snap ring. Either use snap ring pliars, or you can use the small screwdrivers to wedge one side of the snap ring up and work it around.

use the smallest hex key in your tool box, put the shorter end between the button and knob, lower, and when you cant lower no more, turn the hex key so the the "L" is under the button. then lift. it takes practice. i replaced mine too. big difference.

Snap ring plyers,
buy them, use them. ;worship
Will make life so much easier not just on this item but you will find others thru life ;LOL
