Automatic Transmission won't shift

1995 4L60E won't shft into 3rd. Drives OK in 1st and 2nd. When speed and rpm gets to where there should a 2nd to 3rd upshift, transmission behaves as if it is in neutral. Should I start shopping for a transmission?

First try changing your map sensor! it's on your intake manifold top pass side front of engine.That black thing with the wires going to it.
Start cheep! that is the rule .

no 3rd gear

Had the same sypmtom Jan 2003. Don't recall what part the trans guy said broke but it was fatal. Drove it in '2' until I could get it into the trans shop. $1600 with a guarantee and he did the r+r. It's still tight as a drum and really scoots.

also lost?!?

My C5 just started doing this again also, i just recently had the trany rebuilt, this was back in february and not even 1300 mile on the rebuild and it started to do the same thing again, took it back to the mech and he took apart the trany and found that the sprag was bad, got it back and now it started again yesterday doing the same thing no 3rd gear! Its really frustrating me cause i have to drive in 2nd! what else could cause the problem beside the sprag being out or MAPsensor?
