Need help with a persistent leak from the front part of my transmission pan gasket. Replaced it twice, making sure everything was clean, not warped, etc. 2 questions: Anybody having similar problem? ..and replacing it the 3rd time, should I use 2 gaskets, and/or permetex, RTV, ?? What works and what doesn't?

First I'd make sure the leak is not coming from somewhere else with the leak residue ending up on the pan rail. I'd pressure wash the underside of the car then, get it up on jacks with the engine running and check for leaks.

If it is, indeed, the pan, since you've changed gaskets more than once, I'd verify that both the gasket surfaces on the trans case and the pan are not warped, cracked, nicked, etc.

Last resort is to use RTV to help seal the pan.

Thanks for the reply. The underside of my car is so clean it shines. Do you use the RTV instead of the gasket, or with it? Assemble it wet, or let the RTV harden first?

Very often the area around the bolts on the pan is dimpled because of over tightening.Find something that fits in that area and pound them out. I use perimitex to glue the gasket to the pan never on the trans side. If I have a real problem I use some silicone on the trans side of the gasket. Silicone sealers need a clean dry surface to work. If any oil is on the surface it will leak. Carb or break cleaner work good . good luck
