aux fan

ok....never seen the aux fan on....bought a switch kit to turn one or both on...just grounds the green/white wire out of each relay...doesn't really work at all except now the aux fan does turn on sinc with the main fan...no matter what position the switch is in...are the relays bad??? I know the splices work because the aux fan now comes on..didn't before..this has something to do with ground since all i'm doing is grounding the green'/white wire with the switch.....wouldn't just switching the wire off the temp sensor for the aux fan to ground do the same thing? would doing that throw any computer codes??? is there codes if the fan relay is bad?

Had a like problem with my '85. I installed a temp activated fan switch and eliminated the relays. Worked great. Looking at doing the same thing now on my '89. As far as I remember, the fans should also come on if the A/C is turned on.
