Axle Ventilator

I was doing work on the rear end of the car and noticed the little valve (which I discovered is a axle ventilator) sticking out of the top of the differential. I appears that the differential fluid must occasional seep out of here because I can see old fluid around it. Not alot but some. Is this normal?

It depends on how much sloshing you do when driving. Since it is a vent, it is normal to vent whatever is in the tube. A little is OK.
