...when the engine is running. Actually I noticed this ages ago but today I wondered if it's right?

When my engine is running the pump (driven by the belt) seems to move up and down a bit. When the AC engages the increased load also puts tension on the pump.

It seems to smooth out if I increase the revs, looks more noticeable on tickover. The pump / tensioner bolt is secure.

Is it OK?

It's perfectly fine. The pumps is also the belt tensioner, it has to be able to move a bit.

Yes, that is normal. esp. when the A/C cycles - moves quite a bit, actually... :v

Phew

cheers guys!:beer :Twist

Another important issue with the tensioner, is to always have the correct belt size.Having the tensioner in the wrong location (wrong size belt) will cause all kinds of problems.

Speaking of which is the belt a Callaway item or is it the same as stock? I presume might be original (14 years old!!!) as it has "Callaway" written on it.

It's a callaway item. Not a bad idea to get a back up if they still have them.

I don't know if you still can see the mounting of the tensioner with your oilpump on it?
But the normal tensioner has a marking 2 rows on it (upper side), the aluminium between the twee rows is a little bit lower and at 1/3 there is a 3th row this is on the moving part of the tensioner, on the fixed mounting part of the tensioner you also have a marking row. The marking on the mounting part of the tensioner has to be between the two outer markings on the moving part, the perfect belt would has a tension to set the marking of the mounting on the 3th row at the moving part("in the middle so to speak). You could check this so see if the belt is fine or not..
Picture comming up!

Greetingz Peter.

Here is the zoomed in pic of the belt tensioner markings.

Hope it helps..
