Welcome to the Corvette Forums at the Corvette Action Center!

BABY goes into the beauty shop today

I can't even begin to imagine the reserves of patience that Bob must have to have gotten himself through that project!
The last thing I would ask Bob for to to give up what little he must have left!
LOL

my painter IS good and he IS slow, but from what i've seen he also has the tendency to slack off when given the chance. Too many people give him very long term projects so he is used to working on a car a little bit than stopping and going to another car, etc. There are cars in his shop that i haven't noticed any discernable differences than there was 4 months ago. He figures that he will get to them when he feels like it. A lot of these car owners don't care how long it takes. I personally know the owner of one of the cars in his shop and it's been there for 7 years! The guy is not in any rush to get it finished because once it's done he has no place at home in his garage to keep it anyway and it will just go into storage in another shops warehouse.

I think that if I can just keep the painter actually WORKING on the car he can get it done in a reasonable time - it's just that it will mean me 'checking on things" regularly. If i don't check in on what going on he will let things sit.

Barry,

Checking occasionally might be ok, but too often and all I can think of is that old cowboy saying, "Never **** off the cook!"......'nuff said.;)

By the way, check out the new avatar...thanks to 67 Heaven's help and others. Even if I did get my message bumped from this room, it all worked out well.

Way to go barry:)
your lucky to get her in so soon and get her repaired correctly,
your timing couldnt be better "weather wise".from what im told the early fall is the best time to have anything painted, so it will cure properly and will be all ready to drive a bit and wax before winter storage time comes, be carefull this time

Barry,

Good decision to have the car redone correctly . I'll look forward to seeing the difference at the next Corvettes at Carlisle (given what you've said about the speed of your paint man, you just might be done by then). Not that there's anything wrong with that...I've always told my guys "I'd rather have it done right, than done fast!"

Keep us posted. BTW, I will be in the OC Fun Show with the ZR1 on Oct 2nd.
Still working on getting my 67 to run. Bought an Optima battery @ Carlisle, need the al rebuilt and the master cylinder rebuilt and a lot of other stuff done too.:v

Dennis

sorry, I somehow missed this post of yours yesterday!.
my car better be done in a few weeks, not just in time for next Carlisle!
LOL
The '67 still isn't on the road yet? How huch longer for the alternator to get back to you. You sent that out right after Carlisle didn't you? It's a shame to lose what's left of the nice weather without being able to drive it.....geez look who's talking here, I'm without BABY for god knows how long!.

I know the show the OC that weekend will be a big one and I had looked forward to going but i doubt BABY will be done. My Vette club is also holding a Vette only show that Sun Oct 3rd here in Wilmington, DE if you think you can make it.

true enough.....I'll have to tread a fine line of checking in with him and giving him enough room to do his job without him getting bothered by me.

Yep, the new avatar looks cool. After the new paint job I need to get more pics of her and want to do a new avatar myself. Now that you must be the newest avatar expert maybe you can help me when the time comes
:)

Hi Sherry

well, it was quickly from the latest incident but overall I've been waiting 3 1/2 months to get her in the shop!
I didn't know there was a better time than others to do painting but I do hate not having her right now as the autumn is my favorite time of the year and REALLY wish I had her on these nice days to take her out for a drive. Would be great to enjoy her without all the heat and humidity for a change but maybe I'll still get a few drives in if I'm lucky after she gets back.
As for being careful,do you think wrapping both BABY and my entire garage and garage door frame in soft cushion material is unreasonable?
;LOL

Thats not a bad price Barry. I'm shopping in the northern Va area for paint on my 66 BB convt. Milan Maroon. I'm geting prices in the 5-8 K range. I need alittle body work from prior owner damage.
I to called a "corvette shop". He wanted 18K.
I thought that was insane!

I know, I thought the price was actually a steal to be honest. I had gotten quotes of the 6k-8k range WITHOUT any bodywork repairs, just a paint job.
One Corvette Specialty shop told me 20k on a paint job along! Maybe on a NCRS trailer queen but on a driver car that's insane!
Everyone I know and members of my vette club all asked me just how many fractions of a second i took to say yes to that deal before the guy changed his mind and upped his price!
LOL

The best part is that guy is really a Vette specialty body and paint guy too, not just "any shop" giving me a lowball price and his reputation in this area for the quality of his work is great. The only downside to this guy is that he is slow and i'm not sure when i'll see my car back again. it could be 2 weeks, 2 months or next year
LOL
EVERYONE that knows this guy is telling me that no matter what he tells me i should not realistically expect him to get my car back to me for at least a few months!
SIGH

Thats cool, Barry.

Its good to see you're finally having some GOOD luck!
