I just installed a chambered exhaust on my 73. My question is: what is the small plug on the drivers side of the transmission with the green and red or pink wire on it? They travel up to the firewall and then go into the car. Back-up switch? The new exhaust is close to it but if it is the back-up switch im not overly concerned since they are not working anyway. Started to look it up in my books but did not see it...

Joe,
I think you are correct. My books show the backup switch as having Lt Green and Pink on 72-73.

I thought it was. There is also a single black wire on the same side maybe about 5 to 8 inches in front of that plug that is loose in a small rubber boot...any idea on that one??

On the schematics the only thing next to the backup switch is the TCS Delay Relay, has an 18 Black and a 20 Dark Blue....you got me on that one...
I will check a buddies 71 tomorrow, maybe he has the same thing. I'll let ya know.

Appreciate it! The small black wire is not very close to the exhaust like the back-up switch is. After I make all my hanger adjustments in the morning I will re-connect that wire (whatever it is). It also runs up into the firewall and I believe it goes inside the car. Thanks for the help!!!

P.S. That 68 in white is beautiful

I think it's the neutral safety switch. Single black wire with push on plug.

How do ya like that Joe!
I didn't even have to drive over to his house and look at it.....thats service!

Thanks for the compliment on the 68....believe me, she looks good from far and she's really far from good.

Don't let him fool you. It's a beautiful original 68.

I should have paid closer attention to the thread. I didn't even realize it was you here Roadster.

I pulled that black wire last weekend so it's fresh on my mind. I'm pretty sure it's the neutral safety switch.

I took the wire off to put a new end on it. I hit the clutch and started the car without it being connected.... thought with neutral saftey off it would not start?? Im putting a new connector on it... plugging it back in forgetting about it and finishing my exhaust....thanks loads for the help!!!!

Joe,
Neutral safety switch is under the dash on the upper end of the clutch pedal....I believe it is a purple and black wire.

The black plug on the front of you tranny housing is the TCS relay, goes to the relay box on the firewall right next to the brake booster and then to the tcs switch on the front d/s of the carb (if its all there)

The pink and green are for the reverse lights....

Oh yeah....like the 1973 ohio plate....I have a real nice set but on my vette being red and all looks kinda Christmasyyyy.....

Not there anymore so I guess it will not have much effect on anything. Never thought about a christmas look on red. I think they would look great! Everybody asks about my plates. We can meet up in Mentor on a Saturday night at the Super K...between your red and my orange they will be rubbing their eyes!!!!!!!!!!!

Joe:

Thinking about putting chambered exhaust on my 73 small block. Has stock duals now. Where did you buy your chambered exhaust? Ecklers? How was the fit, many adjustments? Let me know how it sounds. Is your 73 small or BB?

Thanks

Would love to cruise out to Mentor on a Saturday night.....I live in Elyria, couple of great shows in Avon every Sat night right off of I90 at route 83.....

Ill bring my Christmas tree Vette....hahaha........is summer almost here...woke up this morning to snow again..............

HEYA KOOL.....where's Edon Ohio?? Close to Cleveland...???

I had duals on mine with headers. I bought it online from Mid America for $269.00.....without headers is $299.00. I got the old system out without a hitch (lucky). The new system went in without a problem. The pass was a bit longer than the drivers so I cut off three inches out the back. My extensions stick out a little futher than before ( they were flush with the valance on the old system) but look fine. I just started it a while ago to see how many leaks I had. Sounds cool at idle and I only tapped it a few times and wow! If it were an every day driver I would have left it alone but since it isn't it sounds damm good....can't wait to run it around the block and **** off all of the neighbors I don't like....lol

Crusin

Lets get a few of us together and meet up at a few different places this summer and show em off :beer

Thanks for the info. Will check out Mid America's exhaust, like their price also. Looking for a louder sound without buying sidepipes. Hope to **** off my neighbors also.

Waterboy1976, Edon is 50 miles west of Toledo, on I 80/90 at the Indiana line. Too far for a evening cruise to Cleveland area.

AMEN to that....cant wait to go cruising.....my tips extend probably 3/4 beyond the valance, but thats the way I believe they are supposed to be....

I havent started mine all winter.....I think tomorrow Ill go crank her up....yeah!!!!!

I will take mine out for a spin on Sunday since the sun is suppose to come out and see how it sounds on the road....snow is gone....we live on the lake but most of the time it passes over and heads into the snow belt area!!!!!!!!! Lived in Medina in the 70's. Like the rural area now. Any town with more than one traffic light is to big for me. If there are any weekend cruises west
of Cleveland this summer may try to drive the 73 on over. Only owned it for a month need a couple of warm months to go through it and see if it is ready for a weekend trip.
