Bad experience with Jeff Leech!

I usually don't go around bashing people, I just keep the bad stuff to myself. I have to say that my experience with Jeff Leech at Mid AMerica has been anything but pleasent.
I ordered a complete Grand Sport body from him 1.5 years ago. In that order I also had the GS front grille, it didn't show up with the other body parts so I called Jeff to see what was the case. No reply, left an message to his answering machine. Did this few times, never got hold of him. So I bombarded him with emails and calls for two months and out of the blue he emailed me back telling me that the front grille was on Back Order and was supposed to be shipped in AUgust 2005.
At this point I still had some confidence in Jeff and him beeing the only "official" GS stuff supplier I order even more parts from him. I ordered stuff like the brakebooster relocating brake, clear headlight covers, tripod mirror, another hood (didn't get the right hood on the first go, I naturally had to pay for both of them, who would like to buy the other one, nobody that's for sure...). These items were all supposed to be IN STOCK and ready to go.
After I had paid the money I asked Jeff to get me the tracking# for the UPS tracking. Never heard from him, until another two months had passed and he said he was still waiting for the front grille I had on b/o from my first order. I told him to ship all the other stuff asap and the grille whenever it would arrive, I didn't care about saving few bucks having the grille shipped with the rest of the parts.
After one too many emails and phonecalls (international) 1.5 from the first order and 8months after the second order I finally got the rest of parts.
As always I was excited opening the boxes and seeing the new parts. I first oped the smaller box filled with the small stuff. First item in my hand were the clear headlight cover, man these cost "only" 250$/pair, and they are so flimsy and thin material full of scratches and I thought they were the covers to keep the real covers in good nick during the shipping, but no these are actully supposed to be used on a car that other people might see. I don't think so...
Second item was the tripod mirror, I thought the childlabor was only used in some poor countries in asia and africa, but after seeing the welds on this thing I wouldn't be surpriced if the tripod was put together by a 5 year old blind kid with his hands tide behind his back.
The same kid must have welded together the brake booster relocating kit. I'm not a master of welding, but I know what is a good weld and what is a appauling attempt to weld. I'm looking at good days work to clean up the mess someone made.
The louwered hood I got was nice piece, only the aluminum fins that are put in the holes were cut out of sheet aluminum by mister S. Wonder. I was only going to use these as a template to make some new ones out of CF, but these are so bad that I will have to make new templates now.
And last but not least, the all mighty front grille. I waited 1.5 years for this master piece (of crap). Once I got it out of the box I immediately noticed that two of the pop rivets holding the bars had come loose, nice!!! Only way to but new pop rivets on is to remove all the bars first!!! This grille is also shaped by Pablo Picasso, since both ends are not symmetrical, one side has a roundy look shape to it and the other has straight lines with a 45 degree angle.
If I had known the quality and the poor customer service before I paid the 9K, I would have made most of these parts myself.
Here's two bad quality pics I managed to snap before the battery in my camera went dead.

one of the pop rivets pop'd out!!! Cool!!!

Some quality welds there!!!
I'm glad I got the stuff here now and don't have to worry abot them any longer. I will not be doing business with mr. Leech any more in the future...

That sucks, where has the quality gone.Nothing like service after the sale. Mark (sixty4)

Wow this is from Mid America Motorsports featured on Speed all the time and who did that c4 build up? I always heard good things from them, I would be ****ed if I was you, those Welds are ****ing terriable. Let him know your spreading the word about this until you get a refund!

WTF!!!!!
Since when do you weld steel after it's already painted?
And not repaint it afterward?

That just plain sucks!!! I don't blame you for ripping on them.

I might be wrong here.. but I think "Mid America" Is a different compny that makes Grand Sport Bodies and parts.

And Mid America Corvette is now Know as Madvet.....Or Mid America Motor Works who is the general Corvette supplier...

Also I think "Mecom Racer's GS 's body parts also came frome Mid America...(Grand Sport Parts) Correct here if I'm wrong.....:ugh

Thanks for the clarification, Mark. A similar name can be a bad thing for the innocent company. :crazy

Mid-America

I bought several items from Mid-America since I got my Vette 2 years ago, and I have found the quality to of their products to be really spotty at best. Some front window shades that fold down and go into a bag, are virtually impossible to fold because the frame material is too flexible. I had an employee from MADVet try to fold them at their booth at the Museum last fall and it took him over 10 minutes to do so. I have a different brand in two other cars and they fold up with just a twist. No offer was made to replace them. I've bought a couple of mouldings for the doors and hood to keep out debris and water. Each and every one of them the glue did not hold and I had to reglue them to make them hold. I got mudflaps and found that they were extruded plastic rather than flexible rubber. No big deal except the front flaps both cracked on the back side, since they were not able to flex at all [from simply driving over a speed bump at the airport at zero miles an hour, and driving off a car wash stop.] Now granted I take the blame for driving in the car wash and going into the airport garage, but geez, why sell an item that will not flex without cracking? When I called them to see if I could get something else, nothing was available except the same product. I replaced them to keep things uniform. I have bought some other things from them, and so far they have worked out, but I have not been impressed with paying top dollar for less than top quality items.

i made the mistake of ordering ''driving light grilles'' from midamerica motorworks at their tent at carlyle...took them a month and a half to ship after they had been paid in cash...both grilles were casting nightmares out of the box...returned them to exchange after being promised good ones would be sent....junk again....body shop guy said he couldn't fix them for anything he'd feel ok about charging me...friend who is in plastic molding says they are made backwards--exposed surface on wrong side of mold...i threw em out

once burnt--twice smart

As an alternate source for GS parts, you might try Aaron Quine at (330) 573-3448.

John
I had and lost a business card from a company that was building GS replica bodys (and turn keys) from Ohio.
I saw his display at the LIma swap meet a few years back and liked what I saw would Aaron be the same Vendor. Building a GS clone has been a dream of mine - who knows maybe someday.
