Hi,
I'm installing new ball joints on my 69 project. The lower ones comes with three bolts for the two mounting holes. Is there a special purpose for the bolt on the left? I know I have installed it on my other car also, but I don't remember why?
Should it be on the front or rear side?

Also, is there a recomended torque for the ball joint bolts both upper (replacing rivets) and lower. My assembly manual has very poor printing quality on this page, but as far as I can see it doesn´t say anything for these bolts, only for the nut for the lower joints.

It is the steering stop and goes in a hole in the front side of the A-arm approx. in line w/ the ball joint. There should be one there originally.

Upper: 50 ft-lb plus align to cotter pin hole (1/6 turn max)
Lower: 80 ft-lb plus align to cotter pin hole (1/6 turn max)

Hope this helps.

Those torques are for the ball joint stud castle nuts.

Johan, the torque for the Grade 8 bolts that replace the original rivets is more like 15-20 ft-lbs. for the three uppers, don't know about the bolts that replace the lower rivets; it should show in the instructions that came with the replacement ball joints and bolts.
