Hello

I finally decided to pull out my heater core and see why the baffle doors kept jamming. Much to my surprise there was a lighter! stuck in there along with a bic pen. The Scripto butane lighter is now polished up; wonder who it belonged to?:L - It was interesting to see how it was installed, no straps to hold it to the surround plate, just some chicken wire to do the job and seals? Who needs more than one on the whole assembly? The plate and firewall also have been cut where the heater inlets poke through, having one square hole instead of two round holes, not sure of the reasoning behing that. Anyway, I'm in the process of ordering a complete seal kit, new blower motor and fan, resistor, speed nuts and heater core. I guess I also need a new surround plate. I'm trying to think if I'm missing anything else that I should change while I'm in there. Any suggestions and any comments on any suppliers and experiences from you guys out there?

I'm also going to replace my battery since I took it out. I want to get a repro one, but was considering a "maintenace free" gel battery, although they should look like a repro from the outside, how is a battery judged by NCRS standards? Are the caps taken off?

An NCRS judge will expect to see a correctly-dated Delco DC-12 "tar-top" battery with yellow caps for full credit; a current Delco replacement (like a model "24-7YR" will get a 50% deduction (12 points), and any non-Delco battery gets a full deduction for both originality and condition (40 points). Most judges will pull a cap to check for a "battery topper".

Thanks John,

I tried to call Restoration Battery in Cincinnati but never got through. I'm going to order their reproduction maintenance free battery. It should be identical to their dry charge battery from the outside.

I also had a snag with the blower motor. LICS doesn't have NOS motors anymore according to them. They had them listed on an old catalog I had. I'm pretty sure mine is original. Actually, I'm just assuming it's shot. Maybe I'll try to replace the blower terminal and resistor. The fuse was fine.

Anyone want to take a crack at these markings?

Heater core: "Harrison" logo next to it - 76C stamped in the metal, on the other side - 3022606

Heater blower motor: "Delco Rochester" 5044555, next to it, extremely hard to read it looks like - Appliance
NY USA
10 65

Outer heater assembly: Embossed on the inside has - P/N 3156854
L
NOR
C

Then also on the inside has stamped in white -
BAI-06-6 B
P/N 3846352

Inner heater assembly: Embossed on outer portion of assembly is: "HARRISON" HD 06 64B

Are these original, service replacements, Ford parts? :L

The heater core was made in March, 1976, so it's been replaced once already. 3846352 is the part number for the assembly (outer case and blower motor), and 3156854 is the part number for just the outer case. "BAI" stands for "blower and air inlet assembly", and the "6B" says it was made in February, 1966.
