What is the difference between these two indicators?! Do they mean the same thing? My battery light seems to turn on verry dimly on occation while my volts are in the normal range. I know the previous owner put on the wrong altenator, that I will very shortly be correcting. Anyhow, just wondering what's up with these two seemingly the same gauges. Thanks!

Jeremy,

Inspect the Alternator connection very close for frayed or loose wire. Also make sure the connection is good clean and a solid connection.

When you get the "Battery Light" pop the hood and remove the Alternator connection.. $$$ to Donuts the light goes out ;) Usually an indication of bad connection or Alternator :(

Also I don't quite understand about the volt gauge showing charging when the Battery Light comes on.. Also check the postion of the Voltage gauge before and after you pull the Alternator plug to see if it changes too.. it should. Turn on your head lights and watch the voltage gauge, it should show the loading of the head lights esp. on high beem ;)

Hey Rare81. Well, you were right. The light went off as did the volt gauge drop when I pulled the altenator plug. I already know that my alternator is the wrong one as the plug almost rests on the valve covers. I had cleaned the connector once before, but just did it again. The light was no longer on but I still have weird electrical issues. I don't know if you read my other thread on this. Here is the link. Thanks!
