I need help here
I am swaping in a 427 .040 over with approx 450-475 HP into my
69 aztec silver rag top I'm looking for pix of BB showing the location
of the brackets (alt - w/P/S) and idler pulley and A/C brackets(i have the assembly man.) but i
like to see the real deal if possible if any one has pix of their BB let me know
thanks

hey problemenko

great site thanks for the info. i still need a view of the all elusve idler pulley
this (....) much closer
thanks

PS.

I found my engine on the great ebay......its out of a 69 vette like mine
no.... the numbers didnt match up by about six month... would have been to good ...

Just wondering why you fellows go with 427 big blocks when 427 small blocks are easily buildable and will swap right in. Don't have to worry about accessory brackets, heavier front suspension, etc. - Bob

I found a complete 454 that came from an 82 truck. I haven't seen it yet but will most likely look at it either tomorrow or over the weekend. I know it runs but has several oil leaks. I plan on tearing it down to the block and sending it to a machine shop. The good news is that it is complete so I can reuse much of the "nickel and dime" stuff that adds up to many dollars.

I think a 427 SB would cost more to build in the long run. But if anyone has an opinion I'm all ears.

Yes you can have a 427 SB but for some unknown reason a 427 SB!!!!!!

just doesn't sound quite right, does it....
besides there's nothing like seeing that BB under the hood to get the adrenalin
going...

other than that, you're right its a 427!!!

hey problemmeko
just make sure its not one of those tall deck engines found in trucks mostly.

they wont work in the vette something to do with the bracketry... I read tha in the
diabolical site....:)

sofast4u what engine is in the car now?

hey moejr

its not a matched # its a SB400 now, everything but the block matches
jeff

Thanks for your comments and keep them coming. I have always been curious why people opt to change to the big blocks when it is pretty easy to get to about 434 cubes with a small block. Obviously,if you want to go above 434 it is a lot easier with a big block but at a glance, the big block parts seem to be pricer. - Bob

I think part of the attraction to a BB is the ground pounding effect. I remember hearing the Corvettes long before seeing them rounding the esses at Watkins Glen in the 70's. It's just something that stayed with me all these years. I suppose a psychologist may define it as something else, going back to my earlier years or maybe even something more devistating to my psyche. I like the sound and feel of a BB rumble.:D

You can use everything from a BB 1968 AC equiped Camaro and will work perfect. I believe there is a picture in my photo gallery on this forum of my L72 427 equiped Corvette Bronze 1968 Camaro for reference which by the way I believe is the only one in existance.

Eve more curious about the swap... if you're wanting to swap to a 454, why not just rebuild the 427 and change the stroke? The 427 & 454 are the exact same block.
