Question: Best Fuel Octaine

Hi, with the gas prices going sky high does anybody know the best octaine rating for a 79 vette (base engine)? I drive my vette daily so gas prices effect me a lot. The original owners manual just says "lead free" but gives no minimum octaine rating. How about fuel additives? Are they worth adding to the tank?

Your car was designed to run on regular, unleaded fuel. Putting higher octane fuel in is waste of money, as would be any additive.

High octane unleaded fuel did not exist when your car was built!

Your car would love 93 or higher octane, but it'll run fine on 87.
