Anyone have a personal favorite for brand of paint ? Close to painting my C3. Any suggestions welcome.

Paint

My Brother Paints a lot of custom street rods...he swears by that Bird Paint (Glaszerts)>Spelling???
Wish I could get him to re-shoot my Vette!

I am a Dupont or ICI kinda guy.

Good quality stuff, long lasting, with a host of supporting products and vendors.

Ive used them all,glasurit,diamont,ppg,dupont,r/m,sikkens,house of color, and glasurit so far has been my favorite especially there clear.

PPG and DuPont are super good!
Stay away from Sherwin Williams Automotive Paints - jmho

DuPont Chroma Premier base/clear is very nice.

Custom Colors?

Sorry to hijack your post, but I have been wondering about paints myself. My question is, are there companies out there that do custom colors? I have been thinking about doing my next C3 in the Radar Blue found on the 1998 Pace Car. Can most of these companies mix such a color? I have heard good things about DuPont, but I have no first hand experience. :beer

Yep, they can pretty much mix any color you want.

yes like 69myway said, anything can be mixed,i had 2002 corvette electronblue mixed for mine in sikkens base coat clear coat.

Yep...PPG and DuPont have the mixes for most any car.
Heck, they even had the enamel mix for a gorgeous shade of Red called 'Monte Carlo Red' that came on a 1960 Thunderbird.
Most of the paint stores also have large paint chip books, so you can browse it and pick out your color.

I think most of the name brand paints are good quality. Personally I'm very impressed with PPG. I had my '71 painted PPG Torch Red 5 years ago. Last year I got hit and the rear half of the car had to be repainted. What amazed me was that the paint had not faded at all. The painter just ordered more Torch Red and shot the rear half. No blending, no matching. It came out perfect. You can't tell anything has been repainted. I live in Dallas with lots of UV, yet after 4 years there was no fade at all.

Hey,Ive used just about every brand out there but I always end up back at PPG.Mainly because its idiot proof and there corrosion and filler primers are the best on the market.Sikkens used to have a better filler primer but epa made them stop production.I am currently doing a GTX in sikkens and I am not impressed, ecspecially for the money :eek
PPG also has a wide range of different grades of paints which means a wide range of prices.Even there cheapest paint system is a good one ,its just not guaranteeable.I try to use products that I can guarantee.
What ever you decide to go with ,use the whole system.Dont mix and match products,it will always bite you in the ass.Im redoing an interior in a 74 that someone painted less than a year ago and it looks like the car has bad acne so follow the directions well and youll do fine.:w

Anyone try a house of color paint ??

Ive been seeing some very cool looking colors on the Monster Garage

I used it many years ago.Its good stuff but only comes in custom colors. They used to only carry paint(base cat and clear) but now they have a whole system including primer, primer filler and sealers.I think it has something to do with them being bought out by Valspar Corp. :beer
