Best windshield wipers

Is this a new question... or is it just too simple to even ask?

I want to replace the new GM wiper blades I bought six months ago. They both squeak. One has a very slight gap where the 1 inch plastic holder is rivieted into the wiper frame. It is that 1 inch plastic holder that the arm fits into. The small gap is magnified over the 11 inch length wiper on each side of the rivet. Interesting, maybe, but definitely GM.

Has anyone tried PIAA, Bosch or another brand? Is there a potential problem with burning out the wiper motor if I use the silicon impregnated type?

Is the car a daily driver where you use the wipers fairly often? Squeaking may be an indication of some material on the glass. Try cleaning the glass with a good glass cleaner and use one of the soft Scotch-Brite pads and lightly scrub the surface. Rinse completely. Check the surface of the blade rubber to see is there is any indication of oil or dirt. Spray some windshield cleaner on a rag and rub the blade surface.

As far as being loose on the arm, you may have some wear at the swivel point and new arms may be in order. If the blade extends over the esge of the glass, you may have some worn bushings. Shorter blades may help depending on how far the end of the blades go past the glass.

I use Bosch wipers on my truck and they seem to do a very good job. They have slots in the frame and may help pass air thru and keep the blade from lifting at higher speeds.

I tried the Silblades on my other summer car 2 years ago.
So far they are doing well without streaking or lifting in spots. They don't make that annoying RRRRRR sound when the glass is almost dry like the rubber blades do.
They have a 5 yr warranty, whatever that means.

Hi Just installed the complete teflon blade/wiper Arm replacement. They were on sale for $13.99 each ......there great, no noise and they wipe super clean just my .02 cents Dr C5~

The PIAA silicone blades are fantastic, best I have ever seen, Previous was the Bosch Micro Edge, even the wife noticed how good the PIAA's are, demanded a set for her Yukon. But more important, you're not driving your Corvette in the rain are you?

We have a new wiper (just announced this Christmes) called the reflex - it is awesome on the DD in rain slush and ice. It also has low wind resistance so is excellent on the highway. It is sold at Canadian Tire Stores in Canada - not sure where in the States.

Rainy driving

Hi, b_pappy, yes, I am that one Corvette that is out in the rain and snow and even worse stuff here in Chicago... even salt has bathed my all-time favorite car.

I will probably try those Bosch blades. I see they are carried at a Pep Boys about 10 miles from here. It is the only auto parts store around that sells anything other than Trico and brand Xs.

mqqn, like you, I used to buy GM's but got some less-than-great ones last year. So I'll try another brand. I am so fortunate that this is my life's worst problem these days !!!

The only one?

There are many people out there in the Corvettes every day, or at least when they need to go someplace. Tuesday I was coming through the Smokies in a snow storm and passed a 81/82 white C3 doing just fine. Had seen a AE vert not to long before that. Heavy rain for 500 miles and snow for the next 166, the C6 handled it just fine.

Myself I think they put the engine and the steering wheel in there so you could drive them.

Good tips from C4cruiser, use them myself.

I'm not out in the rain much with the Vette unless I get caught after it starts. No problems with mine... although I have an '04 and nothing much has gone wrong so far. The GM blades seem to work just fine on mine.

I use Rain-X on the windshield and very seldom turn the wipers on !! I also use it on my SUV up here in sunny Oregon...rain 32 out of the last 33 days
