My 93 started running hot not long ago so I checked all I could--like coolant level--pressure cap--possible leaks--fans--found nothing. I took it to a mechanic & was told everything checked out ok but that I should have the radiator re-bored since the milage was now @ 60,000 plus. Should take care of my problem he said. In the meantime I read some forums that talked about leaves & such restricting air flow if they got on the radiator, but that it is very hard to see this without removing the radiator. Well I was just about ready to take it to the shop--but I decided to try & check anyway. Raised the hood, shined a flashlight behind the radiator (there is a very small opening to see into) & guess what I saw--a big white plastic shopping bag--spread out over about 1/2 of the radiator's area!! A quick snatch with a coat hanger & she's running cool again!! I just know that mechanic would have done the same & not charged me more than a nominal fee!!

:D Lessons learned ......glad you found the bag.....I have found that if I do run over a bag, that I look in my rear view to see if that bag is still there....If not pull over to the side and it will be with the radiator......

Are you sure he may just not be familiar with Corvettes? They are a different breed of automobile, and I am finding that sometimes general mechanic principals don't necessarily apply to my Vette. I have also read of Corvette owners refusing to take their car to the dealers they bought them from, because they don't know how to work on them.

If that was true why didn't he admit to a lack of familiarity and recommend a shop that is familiar with them?

When I am asked to handle a situation at work I don't pretend to know what I'm doing and hope to stumble across the problem as I fart around doing work that I know doesn't need to be done.

That's giving the shop the benefit of the doubt that they really didn't know what the problem was and weren't trying to bend him over...

Where there's debris on the road (leaves, bags, etc.) you can be sure it will find it's way up into that crevice. Those of you who live in climates where leaves and such can be a problem, should check and clean that area once a year or so. And always be on the lookout for what you drive over -- make sure it comes out the other end. ;)

I considered that as well but I thought that any screen I put there might impede airflow

mind you I didn't notice a difference when I removed the screens from my MAF.

sooo, I'm still up in the air on that one. Has anyone tried this already?
