I want to improve the ride and handling of my '89 coupe. It has 64K miles and is in good shape. I believe the shocks are original and I have read some recommendations to use Bilstein. Has anyone tried these? If so, did you see an improvement? If you didn't use Bilstein, what did you use?

Thanks,
Dino

If you already have the Bilstein's on the car (Z-51/Z-52 options), they should be good for around seventy five thousand miles, under normal conditions. ;)

They should be nearing replacement time, given the age of the car.

However, if you are looking to improve RIDE, Bilstein is not the choice. Its a autox shock or for someone who drives 'spirited'.

Edelbrock IAS, Koni, KYB, would be better for ride quality. Edelbrock being the best of those in my opinion.

89's ALL had Bilsteins, regardless of the suspension option (Base or Z51)

One of the many features of the 89's over previous years :upthumbs

Thanks for all the feedback. The Edelbrock IAS looks very good. I was getting mixed information about the type of shock that is currently on the car. I am getting the wheels re-clearcoated, so now is my opportunity.

Thanks Again.

which ones are you going to go with? There seems to be quite a price difference between the Bilsteins and the KYB's.

I've read good things on the forum about TPIS shocks.

I love my KYBs.
I am going to go with the Edelbrock IAS series. They are a bit costlier, bit I really want to improve the ride. I have already installed the front shocks and will do the rears this weekend. Not too bad of a job. I am getting the wheels re-clear coated and wont get them back until next week, so she sits on jack stands!!

Thanks for all of the suggestions.
