I feel stupid. I usually don't use any tire dressing at all but I decided to give the tires on my 96 coupe a going over. The next morning on the way to work I entered a sharp S turn at over 50 MPH and the rear kicked out. I corrected this which put me in the left lane. No on coming traffic but when the tires bit hard it sent me into an enbankment nose first. I stopped instantly and dirt and grass went flying. Well luckily all I need is to have the front bumper cover repainted and replace the right side marker light. I will not be using any tire shine again. And all I did was use it on the side walls.:cry

oops...:W

I had planned to take the car to Carlise. It still can be driven but the nose is missing some paint. Hope to get it fixed in time. I also did the tires on my 91 ZR-1. I may put the chrome 5 spokes back on it. I sure am glad I was not driving it.:D

Sorry to hear what happened but are you sure it was the tire dressing and not something on the road?

Unless you applied it to the tread it seems unlikely the dressing would've caused this IMHO.

Did not see anything on the road like loose dirt or gravel. Have been through there at that speed before, but was wondering if the tires under hard cornering may roll on to the side wall some what. The wheels are 9.5" with 275/40/ZR17 tires all the way around.:w

That's a nice low profile tire.

I think you'd be hard pressed to get the sidewall to row over and make any contact with the pavement.

Believe me I'm no expert nor am I trying to get you to continue using any tire treatment.

Hopefully you'll be able to get her fixed in time for Carlise.

Have fun if you do and drive safe.:beer

Don't put the dressing on the treads and you'll avoid this!!! LOL J/K ;LOL

Really though.......sorry to hear about the bad luck.

I would agree that I'd think it was something else? Even if you got tire dressing on the tread, I'd think it would wear off pretty quickly once you move the car.

If you still want nice black tires, you could instead try a water based dressing since they aren't really greasy or slick, and so if it was in fact the dressing, these would be less likely to cause problems.

I use the same thing and this has never happened to me. Maybe your tire pressure was too low and it allowed to much roll? Fate? Wrong place... wrong time?

Sorry to hear this. Good luck getting it fixed soon!

I agree with the others and it was something else! If it was your tires and not something on the road or inertia; why did your tires "bite hard" later during your incident?

Sorry to hear about your problem. I hope you find out what the cause was and let us know.

A Simple Cure, Don't put any dressing on the Treads, except when in a show!

I use tire wet and only put on the sidewalls. About a year ago, i put some on my treads for a show..and when i left the show, instantly spun the tires.....my heart went in my mouth..lucky no one was around and i was only going 15-20 MPH.....

Sorry to hear about the car...really hope it gets done for Carlisle.

It happened so fast it really surprized me. The tires bit hard I think because the speed had bled off because of the sudden change in direction of travel. It may have been a combination of conditions being just right. Like early morning moisture on the road or moisture in the tires from being washed that night. After washing the car I dried it and did the tires with a sponge applicator . Then pulled in the garage. I'm just glad it was not alot worse. I can tell you the C4 has one tough nose, it will take a good shot.:)

You might want to make sure the foam or whatever the impact stuff is in the nose is undamaged. It might look okay from the outside and still be damged.
