blowing fuel pump fuse

My 84 started blowing the fuel pump fuse for some reason, also the gauge panle is really dim any ideas on what to look for? Thanks..

Does your dash work well and just dim?

If so, there are 4 high intensity bulbs which light the LCD's. You can get to them by removing the front bezel and popping out the 4 round metal covers. Bulbs are behind them, they're GE 882's. They pop out of their socket, you can do this by pushing a piece of hose over the end. Don't touch 'em, they dislike debris and oils like halogens.

Also, could be the photoelectric cell in the cluster which is behind the little square at the top right of your speedometer readout. Put your finger over this and look for a change. There are good,easy instructions for bypassing this on: batee.com

Also, is your headlight switch turned all the way to the right? Can't overlook this! Hope this helps, Joe

Pulled the panl and changed out the bulbs,,$27.00 worth.oooch...for only four but would rather be working with new than old...still hard to see...the lites dont even come on so...sure hoping it isn't going to be the next step in that artical...not looking forward to going in that deep...not with these old eyes and trying to solder...

Pulled the neg post off the batt and let it sit for awhile, took the trim plate off to check for power to the radio, then hooked the batt back up..power to the radio but it still doesnt work, I can hear a click noise in the back...I think it is comming from the ant but not sure..anyways disc the batt and put everything back together and took it for a spin and somewhere along the way the dash lights came on and stayed on...shut it off and started it again...no lights in the dash...drove a bit and they came back on ...I checked the ground under the driver side head and it seemed to be ok...no power to the cigar lighter and all the fuses are good....this is fun...at least the damn check engine light went off...

My problem was very similar.....sporadic dash lights but otherwise OK. It turned out to be one of the wires in the multi-pin connector on the side of the cluster. If I remember, it was the one which supplies POWER to the bulbs; not a GROUND as most people usually report. Fixed this wire, no problem since. A wiring schematic would be real helpful to identify the function of all these wires in the connector.
I believe I did a search for that here, but unfortunately didn't save it.
