1981 beige/bronze
Hello.

New IMG_2023_NEW.jpg to this forum ,and new to Corvettes.I recently bought a 1981 with a body tag witch looks different from the one shown in the samples found online.Wonder if anybody could help me decode this?

Welcome.

The trim tag is typical of '81 and '82 Corvettes that were built in the Bowling Green Plant. These tags are very different in appearance than the earlier cars built in St. Louis.

The C on the top line of info confirms that this is a 1981 model.

06 means that it was built in the 6th month of the year (June) and C means the fourth week.

641 indicates a Camel coloured interior possibly, leather. 50L 50U 74M is for a two tone being/dark bronze exterior colour

I believe that the numbers on the top right are the last 6 of the VIN

Thanks for your answers. You dont happen to know what the last E on the second line means?
Does this particular car have a low sequence number?The VIN is 1 G 1 A Y 8763 B 5100307

Swiped this answer from another forum. No clue if its right or not

Enamel. All St. Louis C3s used acrylic lacquer. Bowling Green used enamel. The E reminds dealers/painters that the paint is not lacquer.

The low sequence number, means it's an early build, perhaps even the 1st week of production

The lacquer and enamel info is correct. Approximately 80 1980 Corvettes were painted in two-tone acrylic enamel as part of a pilot paint program and there was an "E" stamped on the trim tag. The NCRS Judging Guide doesn't say anything about the BG Corvettes being stamped with an E for that same purpose but all the sample pictures in the manual show the "E" on BG cars for '81 and '82. It would make sense that was also used once the change to base coat/clear coat was made at the time BG production started to avoid problems in the field during repairs. St. Louis lacquer and BG BC/CC paint had different codes for the same colors though. For example Frost Beige in lacquer was 59 and in BC/CC was 50.
