The tire store that I got my tires swapped out on the car for me told me many many times to double check the torque of the bolts with the new wheels after 50 miles or so and that they should be checked again after a couple of hundred miles....well, I did check and almost all of them were good, only one or two needing some additional snug to get them to 65 ft-lbs...EXCEPT one....that just turned and turned and turned....finally took it off and the threads on the bolt that were engaging the stud on the bolt were virtually gone!!! There was nothing for them to hang on....so if you got the new wheels and bolts provided by the supplier, I would suggest double checking them as well.....off to the parts store to see if they have the longer type of wheel nuts....

good luck!!!

so I was going to get a lug from the parts store...but the length as well as the outside size, makes it a special...so I am stuck going back to Virginia Vettes....to make matters worse, EVERY one of the cones has a small dent in the lip on the bottom of the cone (the largest diameter)...so one more thing to talk to them about....so if you are getting a set, check them carefully......

On a better note, I talked to Dick at Virginia Vettes (I had sent him an email last night explaining everything) and he told me that new cones and a new lug was already on the way.....I can't ask for better service than that! Thanks Dick!!!

I'm sure one of the tire store lunkheads stripped it with their air impact wrenches - they do it every day. I always take my torque wrench with me and torque them myself; when they say "Our insurance prohibits customers in the work area", I just tell them fine, I'll go elsewhere to get my tires, and suddenly their insurance isn't a problem any more. :)

the more I thought about it...the more I think you are right....got it cross threaded and stripped with the impact wrench.....
