I am looking at 3 books and was wondering if any of you have any opinions of them (and their worth).

One is Weekend Projects For Your Corvette 1968-1982

The second, whose name I can't remember, is a cross reference manual for Corvette to GM part numbers.

The third is the assembly manual for my year vette.

There have been times when I bought a manual thinking it would be a great help, only to find out that it is hardly ever opened.

Definitely get the assembly manual and Hayne's manual. They are the necessary literature that you will neeed if you ever need to find problems. Don't buy a Chilton's manual.

Pete.

hello, personally you can never have enough reference material. i would buy all three. each will have something that another book won't show. for example.wiring diagrams will vary book 2 book.
also i buy any book that has Vettes in it. no matter what the copyright date is on it. i got a flea market book for .50c it only went to model 1972,but had great pictures of some of Bill Mitchell's personal experimental Vettes.

just my opinion

If you plan on your 'vette being a 'driver', then I highly recommend getting How To Restore & Modify Your Corvette 1968-82. This book has a wealth of data and will save you money in the long run.

A book I can suggest is a '78 wiring diagram manual. Chevy put one out specific to the '78 Vette. If you can find it, get it.

I agree about the Haynes manual too or even a factory manual. The '78 service manual covers several cars but there is lots of Vette specific info in it.

As has already been stated, the more the better as far as documentation goes. However, the second book you mention (I can't remember the name either) that has the cross ref of Corvette parts that appear in other cars is gold. Walk into your average junkyard looking for a Vette and they are few and far between. But look for an old Chevelle, Impala, or even a Cutlass that has parts that are perfect for your Vette - now that's a piece of cake.

Weekend Projects has some great stuff in it--clearly stated and easily followed projects--well worth it
