Borla Straight Pipes?

The moment has arrived to order new catbacks. After much debate, I've decided the two tip system is for me. I also know I want them to be pretty loud. So, I'm seriously considering the B&B's or the Borla Stingers, but Corvette Garage has the Borla straight pipe two tip system for $350. That's pretty cheap, and would leave more money for more stuff (intake, and I'm about to need tires).

Does anybody know just how loud those pipes are? Louder than the Stingers, or even the B&B's? Will I still be able to hear the stereo at cruise speeds? Do they resonate badly? I can live with a little resonation, as I rarely drive my car on long trips. I just don't want my teeth vibrated loose when I make my summer trips from KC to the Lake of the Ozarks.

Thanks in advance for any input.

Nobody with the straight pipes? I realize the "which brand of exhaust" thing has been discussed a million and one times, I'm just wondering about the straight pipes vs. a loud muffled system (ie the Stingers).

My Stingers are loud, resonate some at freeway speeds, and ocassionally pop on deaccell. Exactly what I wanted. If you don't want your "teeth vibrating", then I would stay away from straight pipes. Your neighbors will appreciate it also.

Thanks for your input. I'm looking for pretty loud, but not open headers at the strip type loud. So maybe I'd better stick with some sort of muffled system.

Good decision! And the Borla Stingers are loud!

The B&B Bullets are advertises as the loudest system on the market, read the thread a few spots above this one concerning them.

6 Shooter has a very nice Corsa system on his MY 'Vert. It's loud only when you want it to be. No resonance at all!

I've got Borla Stingers on my 99 w/long tube headers, hi-flow cats, x-pipe. They are the four tip oval style, and they do resonant at about 1500-1800 rpm. I just try to stay out of that range when cruising( thats about 55-65 mph with my 3;15's). They sound great at WOT and are ok around town, where rpm's are always changing. Just my $.02 worth

I put Borla Stingers on my 04. They really sound good but I definitely wouldn't want anything louder. I noticed a little resonance cruising but really not enough to notice it much. I think u would really like the stingers.:_rock

Sorry I'm so late to this thread.

I have the Borla XR-1s, with a single resonator/muffler and 2 large tips. They are very loud. There is some resonance from around 2000-2500 that many find annoying (I love the exhaust sound too much to care). Mine run behind headers, moddified cats, and a 422 engine, so my car may sound a bit different than some. It is a deeper sound than any other C5 exhausts I've heard. I love it and would not change to anything else. I've heard many other exhausts, and without a doubt the Borla is me. If you want absolutely no resonance though, do not get these.

The XR1 system on their site is $799 which is what I have had for over 6 years.

(disclaimer: no offense to those who prefer other exhausts, everyone has their preferences. I can tell you there are many who would not be caught dead with my exhaust setup, as it is considered way too loud and aggressive by many; but that's what I like and want)

And since it's your Corvette, ZZ, I say more power to ya! (Of course, the volume on your exhaust note could help to explain why you're living in "a shack outside LaGrange." :L )

"Aggressive exhuast" I like the way you phrased that!

Hey Patrick, so true my friend. Gotta love it.

Hope to see you in Bowling Green at the next Cruisefest.

I realize this is an older post but here goes.
I have a borla XR-1 on my car behind Kooks with stock cats. It's loud and I love it. Yes it has resonance but I personally like to listen to my motor growl at the other cars. I also have a 1000 w amp so I can hear my music at 75mph with the windows down!:cool
