Box behind seats in '03?

I have a 2003 AE Coupe.

What are the boxes for that are located just above the shoulder strap anchor points behind both seats?

I believe those “boxes” were added to meet upgraded safety standards for head restraint. Also, compare the thickness of your A pillar with say a 2000 or 2001. You will notice additional padding and thickness on your ‘03.

This is correct. The A pillar change also causes problems when you want to buy one of those slick gauge pods for the A pillar...be sure to specify the year to the supplier.

ok, so the box is added safty for the head restraint but what's inside that makes just that one section wide enough to need a new cover for it???
