Help! brake lights

I have a problem with my drivers side brake light. The passenger side light works, but not drivers side. It is not the bulb I checked that. I metered the light socket and am getting 0 volts to the problem side. The previous owner had spliced the three wires, I cut them and re spliced them (thinking they were corroded). After that though I had the same problem. Is there a ground somewhere that could be bad, or what could the problem be? I am quite frustrated with such a simple problem. What am I overlooking?

Also where does the fuel sending unit ground out, at the frame or does the ground wire have to be connected to the fuel sending unit? I am not very strong with electrical systems.....

1979 brake light issue

I am having a similar issue. the passenger side tail light works with turn signal and tail light, but if I hit the brakes the light goes completely dark. I lift the brake and it works again. the driver side works fine.

Did you have an assistant stepping on the brake pedal when you made the measurement?

If so, were you measuring between the bake like wire and ground and not the tail light wire and ground?

If yes to both, your problem is between the brake pedal and the lamp.

To check the ground you need to measure resistance between the grounding point on the chassis and the ground contact in the bulb socket.

Dirty Dan..does your tail lite work in that socket????If so I would start by chasing the wire back,
and see if there is a break somewhere else in the feed.
