Brakes not braking right???

My 92 is the only Corvette I have owned/driven so I have nothing to compare to. The brakes do not seem to 'grab' like I think they ought to. Since I have owned it, the booster, rotors, pads (twice) and rubber lines have been replaced (lines with S/S). The pedal is not too soft or hard, it just does not feel like it is grabbing as it should. The only thing I can compare it to is a car I drove that had gotten oil on the brakes. You feel the rotor/pad contact but it just doesnt seem to have enough friction. Anyone have any ideas? Is this just the way the 92 works?

My 92 felt the same way just after I got it. I noticed it more when the brakes were cool and primarily in city-type traffic. I swapped out the factory pads for a set of Hawk HPS pads and immediately noticed a BIG difference. Much better cold bite and they worked even better after they got hot.

Try a high performance pad like the Hawk HPS or Performance Friction PF-Z pads or EBC Green Stuff. These pads are quite suitable for daily use, autocross and even the occasional track day. You should expect some increased dusting from these pads but it's sort of a trade-off.

I also did a brake fluid flush using Ford (Motorcraft) HP fluid. This is a DOT4 type fluid with higher wet and dry boiling points. Castrol LMA is also a good choice for a DOT4 fluid for street and A-X use.

The word I'm getting from other 92 owners it this is just the way they work. Live with it or spend big buck on aftermarket versions. I love my car but my Ford truck has better feeling brakes. Shame on you GM ad
