breathless ram air

hi all,

just got back from taking the vette for a test run
with my new breathless performance ram air setup and boy
does she like that extra air!!!!!!!! i cant believe how hard she
is pulling from 35 mph on.the installation was pretty easy but
need to use some special tools( die grinder and an angle air drill
w/ a cut off 3/8" drill bit) other than that it was pretty straight
forward, just tape the template in place trace it out w/ a grease
pencil cut it out drill the holes mount the box and your done.
i am very please with the gain i have noticed and like i said
installation was pretty simple.

who knows maybe one of you may want to get one. i am glad i did

You couldn't say it any better. I know alot of guys knock on it around here, however I am very happy with that setup. I notice an increase, especially in the seat of the pants. I would also say that I clean mine more often then they say. I clean mine every two months. You would be very surprised how dirty the filter gets with that open air coming in. I am glad you enjoy your new toy.

I got it put on and then went to the dyno. I picked up about 5 hp across the power band. I put a leafblower in front of it to simulate air flow and my hp jumped to 12-15 hp over the power band. It also smoothed out the power band at the upper RPM's

What if any engine temperature changes did y'all see? That's less air going to the radiator.

runs @166-172 but not dreadfully hot outside

Mine runs cooler then it did before about 5-10 degrees or so. I have a 160 stat and a chip that turns the fans on at 175, with that and the Ram Air she runs really cool. The install is very easy like said before, it might be a bit pricey but I think it is well worth it.

I dont think the radiator seeing less air is that much of a factor. At higher speeds you have more air going into the shroud area then the car can breath. However the car now breaths cooler air, so there for it should run a little cooler. That whole forced air deal claims to lower the temp by 60 degrees or so.

I put one on my '96 a few weeks ago. Based on a seat-of-the-pants feeling, I think the engine performs better. I haven't had it on a dyno to check it out though.

The only problem I see with it is the fit of the air cleaner element and clamp in the hole. There's not a very good seal at this point and the clamp slides down through the hole if I disconnect the intake at the throttle body. I'm going to make a seal out of a piece of fairly large diameter vacuum hose when I get a chance.

Also, I think the plastic intake pipe is pretty cheaply made considering the price of the unit. The fit between this rigid pipe and the rubber intake hose to the airflow sensor is very tight.

Did you have any problems with your booster fan. The way the template looks on the 85, it cuts off the mounts for the booster fan
