Just changed the upper radiator hose on my 69 BB. It had a groove in it where the alt. belt hit it. I think there are 2 possibilities as to what happened. I recently changed the belts when I replaced the ps pump. May have hit when the belts were not tight. Or, broken motor mount. The hose is about 3/4" above the belt. The engine does move up about 1/8" when reved up, but I think this is normal. I replaced the motor mounts about 3 yrs ago from Autozone, don't know much about them. Any thoughts on a broken mount? How to check? Thank you.

It does not sound like your motor mount is broken if it only moves 1/8" when revved.

I had a broken motor mount and with the hood up (so I could see the engine) I revved and it would lift several inches. It had also lifted so high the fan blades cut into the fan shroud. That was actually my first clue to the problem, when I accelerated I could hear a terrible noise under the hood, it was the fan hitting the shroud.

You might have the wrong radiator hose, wrong belt, wrong drive pulleys, wrong mounting bracket, wrong theromstat housing etc.etc. (some or all of the above) that positions your belt too close to the hose. Very common problem.

You'll have to go through the car piece by piece to see if you have the correct configuration.
