Hi All,
I located a broken valve spring on #5 exhaust -- and a bent pushrod. Hopefully, this is what has been causing the misfiring and backfiring.
Although I bought the heads last summer, Summit is willing to replace the spring. Call it paranoia, but I went ahead and ordered an entire new set of springs since Summit believes the broken spring is a result of a defect.
I used an adapter to hook up a compressed air line to the spark plug hole. The valves are still holding air, so I hope the valve is okay. I'll do an actual compression test, as soon as I complete the reassembly. :confused
