Brown Tires?

http://www.meguiars.com/secrets.cfm

TIRE CARE TIPS
Avoid ordinary silicone emulsion protectants that cover over your surface contamination with a shiny synthetic coating. These cause tire discoloration and decay. Clean your tires while you dress them with a complex formula like Meguiar's Intensive Protectant that cleans, beautifies and protects in one easy step, leaving tires looking like new, and free of that "plastic" look.

"These cause tire discoloration and decay."

That's what i'm talking about when i say the armor all is not helping but making it worse.

In the early days of automobiles, tires were seldom black. The rubber from which they were made was naturally colored off-white or tan. Today's black tires owe their color to an accidental discovery.

In 1885, the rubber tire company B.F. Goodrich decided to try black tires, thinking that they might not show the dirt as much. They added carbon black pigment to the rubber mixture. To their surprise, they discovered that the carbon-colored rubber tires were five times more durable than the uncolored ones.

Today's tires are far tougher than those first black tires, and much more elaborate; they contain dozens of layers, with steel belts and computer-designed treads, but the basic black rubber is still an important part of the design. As the tire degrades with age it loses some of the carbon black, which obviously will make the tire appear lighter in color, i.e., brown.

We also know that as it ages it dries out too, right? Hence the cracking of the sidewalls. ;)

All true comments but I'm telling you from experience that the Armor All makes it much worse. So saying the Armor All has nothing to do with it showing brown is not true at all. There's something about the armor All that's makes it really brown. BTW - I'm not trying to prove I'm right or wrong, just trying to get some good information out to others.

I agree with you in that I would never use Armor All; I HATE that stuff. :r

I just noticed that this post is located in the "C4 Mods" section when it should be in the "Care & Detailing" section; I'm gonna move it. ;)

I'm still using Tire Wet cuz I bought a big bottle. But 86 the sprayer- just pour it into a cup, and apply with a paintbrush. It's faster and neater. I think I'll join the no dressing club, too. If you keep the rubber clean, it looks good enough.
I've thought of just using a mix of bleach, water, and a very small amount of soap (S100) to save $ on Wesleys.
Anybody have a homemade formula?
