I have finally got paint on my '75. Since I am new here, a little history of the car. I have owned this for about 3 years. I bought it in the middle of a frame off, I simply needed to put it back to gether, paint it, and get it running. Well, 2 kids later, I finally have paint on it. My question is this, what color are the bumperettes supposed to be for a 75, flat black, semi-gloss?

Any help would be appreciated.

What color were they before you painted them?? Mine are not painted (they were masked off during painting) and are a kind of rubber/semi-gloss/vinyl appearance. I think originally they were left unpainted and were the color of the bumper material. I will be a my local club meeting and will check with the other 1975 owner in my club and let you know if he says anything different. My car has been repainted but I know his still has the original paint. You might be able to see a little better here http://members.iquest.net/~lrosen/bruces_vette/brs_vette.html or if you want, I can email a few better pics.

Both bumpers are new fiberglass replacements. I never saw the originals.

Looks nice...their won't be a single radar detector on the planet that will miss you. ;LOL

Speaking strickly from my 79's factory look, they should be painted in a semi-flat black color. That is what they are on my original 79. I don't remember ever seeing any C-3's with the rubber noses, front or rear, not painted black. Just my observation. Maybe someone else knows better. Good luck and nice looking paint job!

The only ones that I have see that are body color are those that just recently had a new paint job and they just sprayed everything :D

tom..

The ones on my 75 are original and they are the color of black rubber because that is what they are. I am having both the front and rear caps painted as we speak. I am going to leave them the black color.

Yes, I agree. They are flat black. The original material color it seems. These hardly ever take damage in the front as the nose is out there farther. In the rear it's a different story.

Is that Fed X orange ,ok just kidding looks great must be nice to have new paint.

Believe it or not, the guy that did the paint and body work makes his money from repairing wrecked FedEx trucks.

Definitely semi-gloss black. Another tip (though I hate to admit this): If you have a nick or fading bumperette, simply go over the affected area with a permanent black Sharpie marker... works great, even lasts a few months... then you simply do it again. I walk around my '78 monthly with a Sharpie...over the black windshield trim, bumperettes, rocker molding, engine compartment components... anywhere there is a chip in the black semi-gloss parts. I plan on painting the entire car in a few years, until then there will always be a Sharpie marker in my toolbox.

You're joking - right?

Not at all...He usually has two or three of them in the shop. That is why it has taken so long for the paint work.

No, I was referring to the "chrome the bumperettes" post.
