While searching for a ground problems in my 85 coupe (radio hum/buzz/hiss), I found an absolutely disgusting patch job to my radar detector. The detector came with the car when I purchased it (3rd owner). I cut the cable thinking that might be the source of my feedback into the radio. Didn't work. I went back tonight to try to re-patch the cable to get my radar detector operational again, and I realized something...I don't pay close enough attention. It's obvious that one of the previous owners had installed his own remote detector/transponder in the nose of the car, and had done this awful patch job to re-use the radar detector head-end unit in the car ( the one in the car apparently came from the factory. The radar display/status unit is badged as "designed for Corvette", and has a C4 logo on the unit, an is mounted under the dash/cluster overhang).

Anyway... He had done some pretty creative wiring ; that I'm going to have to reproduce (and no, I didn't note the wiring connections...mostly because I thought the wiring was the problem).

My question is this, does anyone know where I may be able to find wiring shematics for this remote headend (in car) unit, and the remote transponder unit under the front cowling?

The actual detector unit in the engine compartment is labled as "K40 Microprocessor Super Heterodyne Radar Detector Remote Unit". Other than this, I don't see any branding labels on the transponder.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Trey

You might try a high end audio & electronics store listed in your local Yellow Pages Phone book - Many places local here will install the k40 brand professionally...

Hope this helps :m

-if this dosent work, try a web search on k40 radar detector and you may find a mfr. link to contact.
