Black 1996 LT4 Coupe/ 2004 Z06/Z16
Hi guys,

Down to the wire here, I've seen the beast once, 96 LT-4 blk/gray cpe 48k, $18,500 asking - I think he's pretty firm. Very clean. I'll drive it Thurs & make my offer. I'm not really big on paying a shop to inspect, the last time I did they did not tell me anything I hadn't already noted.

As for problem areas to look for on 96 LT-4's, so far I have

Reverse gear (is a little delicate?)
Orange coolant geling,
Any Bose problems like the ZR1's or was that upgraded by 1996?
Any others specific to 96 LT-4,

Thanks much.:)

Hi there,
Delamination of the intake manifold gaskets, resulting in a fluctuating idle, or oil leaks.
The vacuum check valve, located on the passenger side of the intake manifold, breaks, giving NO mode for the HVAC.
Brake pad rattles if aftermarket pads are used, and new hardware is not used.
Oil leakage at the mounting bolts that fasten the optispark distributor to the timing cover.
Absolutely NO aftermarket alarm system.
Low coolant level, which causes the gelling of the Dexcool, due to leakage at the weephole of the waterpump. This in turn causes Optispark problems internally, because it leaks the coolant right on the cap of the Optispark.
Ask if the latest calibration has been updated into the PCM by a Corvette dealer.
Based on production, check the leaf springs for cracks, which show only as splinters, that come away from the spring, NOT flow marks in the spring.
IF you have the sport seat option, check for correct lumbar operation and that the side bolsters feel the same for the passenger side as the drivers side.
Allthebest, c4c5:hb

Hi c4c5,

Thanks for the quick response, I'll check those areas.

my tranny went south at 26k on the one that I had

What did it cost to fix the tran? Full rebuild?

This is not LT4 specific, but i'd look for "lift" damage on the underside. John

You mean like the guy at Midas who checked the brakes last time diden't know where the lift points were?
