I need to gut my c-1 dash and dash pad so I can paint the dash cluster and replace all the guages and trim as well as redyeing the dash pad. I have everything else out of the car (seats, carpet) How do I go about this? Buller? anyone?

I found out from a friend of mine who owens and runs corvette correction that all it takes is a 3/8 inch soccket and the removal of four/five (i only found four bolts) .
1) unplug all of your dash conections.i.e. lights.ingtion, wipers, etc.
2) remove the under collor of the steering coloum use a phillips head.
3) remove the U bracket that attaches to the sterring colum with a phillips head.
4) remove gauge cluster
5) remove dash pad.

I did mine in about 30/40 minutes two jackNcokes.
I the cleaned preped and painted my Org dash pad it has 3 cracks in it close to the windscreen line so I may be able to reuse it. good luck mate.

I thought that the windshield and frame needed to come off the car inorder to replace the dash pad. My 59 still has the original pad it looks like crap but I have not changed it since I do not want to mess around with the windshield. I plan to restore the car in a couple of years

By your description it looks fairly easy and straight forward to replace the dash pad

The windshield does have to be removed to replace the dash pad properly. Been there done it. If the dash cluster is already disassembled it isn't that much more work to remove the bolts that hold the windshield in place. Under the vertical windshield post you'll have to lift the edge of the old pad to get to the access hole that allows you to remove the bolts in that area. If you fail to remove these bolts you'll wind up breaking the post tabs when you try to lift the windshield off. Should also replace the rubber gasket under the bottom of the windshield frame at the same time. Good luck.

Dash pad wind screen

My wind screen was/is off I am doing a full restro and the car is in quite a few piles. My dash was a little brittle but I was able to save it redye it and WOW it looks great.. I will try and post some pictures next week.
