C-6, no mo!

Well, 'my' black/black Z-51 6-speed is gone, after 24 hours. I called the dealer this morning to get the second key FOB and he called back saying they had terrible news.

Seems they had sold the car, which was paid for, to someone else. They screwed UP; seemed genuinely sorry and quite grateful that I would drive it back to them in time for the delivery.

Hey, I got 24 hours of free C-6 rental! Too bad it was not broken in! I was quite gentle with it and learned a lot about the car in that short time.

I know U lawyers would say that possession is 9/10ths of the law; that consideration had sealed a written contract, and I did not have to return it. The dealer agreed with me when I said so, but this works for me, too.

Is this a sign from above that I am to wait for the paddle-shifted 6-speed or what?

I found the seat a bit hard and am not sure I want the stif suspension, though I want the rest of the Z-51 stuff. I still prefer a 6-speed automatic, thought the manual shifts nicely, with a rather short throw. I am also not all that thrilled with how the complexity of the car fits with what I want in a Vette.

Dealer pomised $1000 off on the next one I wanted; any color, any car.

By the way, why does everyone capitalize the word "fob"? A key fob is just that - a fob:

RainMan- The dealer made the error, not me. I expect no credit impact.

Ken- The owner's manual uses FOB; is why, I guess. I HAD a C-6, for overnight; thought of calling you before long, pal. Got 170+/- miles on her.

The new key is more of a fob than a key, as there is no pop-out key or anything, but there is a provision for attaching a ring with a key on it. It was carried, in my case, in a non-fob pocket, for ease of retrieval. I found I needed the horn honk as an acknowledgement of the car passively locking, despite my dislike for the noise, especially when arriving home in later hours. It's not like you can look at the car and see, unless you drop the FoB and return to check.

I went through most of the instructional CD (it started skipping due to a greasy deposit from the player, after cleaning it; 3 cycles of this, and I quit) and played with the system quite a lot. One smart salesman, who had been Chevy trained for many hours, claimed that he was still learning the car after a year! I can totally understand that and such is why I am not sure if the new one, with all the doo-dads, is what I expect and want in a Vette. I feel fortunate to have spent so much time with what is pretty much the exact car I would order, and am therefore re-evaluating those choices.

The car does look great in person but doesn't attract as much attention as I'd have expected. The Magnetic Red is stunning in the sunlight; the yellow is a real eye-catcher, but I think the car was designed for black. I have 4 black cars and am not a huge fan due to the required maintenance and limitations, but it is my new favorite on the C-6 after seeing all colors except the bright red(s).

I sure hope you do when you finally get one (If you do get one that is. ). Mine's been running pretty good so I wouldn't hesitate to drive it down your way any time now.

As for getting used to the new things that come with a car, it's always been that way - there's just more to learn, therefore it takes longer to learn 'em all. Ya wouldn't be selling it before that anyway so ... :L

Oh, by the way, there was also a term we don't see much anymore, F.O.B., that I forgot to mention (Free On Board), but then again, that one's spelled with periods.

Yes, thanks. Cormier's sales people have been right at the top of all those I have ever dealt with.

I had all the paperwork, including DMV completed; they had my deposit check, which was returned to me. I assume that they did a credit check before doing any of the paperwork and don't see how a voluntary cancellation of the deal would affect my credit. I did not finance it with the dealer or anyone else, for that matter. You know how eager everyone is to loan money to folks these days, especially pilots (for now)? Am I missing something?

The deal was done; the car was mine if I had opted to tell them to pack sand, instead of returning it. They admitted as much and were grateful for my 'grace'.
