I would agree with you; but GM should then say to us, the consumer, that if you want a Vette, here are the dealers from whom you can buy, order, dicker, etc with confidence that you will receive the car of your choice before it loses a year's worth of value (assuming a delivery date in July/ Aug timeframe). I will let you know what my "little" dealer tells me next week.
I know what you mean. I hooked up with good dealer (though they did not give me much of a price break) pretty much by accident. Since I placed the order, I have learned a lot more about the ordering process.

To some degree, this seems to be a weird byproduct of GM's allocation approach, and I suspect the rest of the industry operates the same way. GM's interest is to sell as many cars as it can, so GM gives more allocations to the dealers that move the most cars of a particular type. Of course, the small dealer can't sell more than they are allocated, so it's hard to get their volume up and to get their allocation increased.

Some dealers compound the problem for customers by being less than forthcoming about these issues. Reading this forum and covetteforum, I can see that there are a bunch of people running into this issue.

I have this fantasy that at some point in my life, I'll decide to buy a particular car and find that the dealers have a good assortment in stock and that they will want to sell the car more than I want to buy it. But after 30 year or so of buying cars and even in a sluggish car market, I always seem to want somthing that is hard (and expensive) to get.

Anyhow, it'll be interesting to hear what your dealer says this time. Good luck!

Cheers

And the bottom line as of today: No order # and no idea when Chevrolet would pick up my order. ANd the dealer also said - But if you hold on and change your color choice, you might get the car in July or August. BS!!!!! As much as I want a Corvette, I am not running to Kerbeck or to some dealer 100-200 miles away to get a Vette and, if, by chance, something needs attention on the car and I go to the local Chev dealer, they will welcome me with open arms> Wasn't born yesterday. I will find another toy!

Help, am I getting B.S.'d by my dealer? I ordered a C-6 coupe on Nov. 21, '04. My dealer, 'Connell Chevrolet of Costa Mesa' told me it would be app. 10 - 12 weeks. O.K. I've been waiting 47 years so what's another couple of months.
Mid February I check up with the dealer for a status report. He tells me that G.M. has the order in, however, the plant has been re-tooled to make a 2-3 month run of convertibles. Any informed people out there want to enlighten me? I'd appreciate it.
Bob,
what exactly did you order....? Do you have an order #?

Does anyone know the ordering codes that corespond to the order status? I ordered my Victory Red Vert last week. Not sure if the dealer had any allocations, though I suspect they do because they sell a lot of them. They had 6 in stock the day I ordered mine. They gave me an eta of 8 to 10 weeks.

Anyway another dealer I visisted before deciding to order through dealer number 1 has called me and said they have allocations and gurantee me delivery in 6 to 7 weeks. They are a high volume dealer. "by the way does gurantee mean they give me the car for free if it's longer? LOL"

So I don't mind staying with dealer number 1, but I want to make sure that the same thing does not happen to me as above. With them putting me off months because they did not have allocations.

So I would like to know the dealer ordering codes so I can figure out if they do indeed have the allocations to fill my order. I had seen them in another thread but can't seem to find them again.

Wouldn't be great if the dealer told you up front that they have a small allocation and you may or may not get your Corvette?

My little GM dealer told me exactly that, while my little Ford dealer did not.
Still have a coupe on order, no deposit, he hopes to get it in for stock.
Had a new Mustang GT on order for months, the dealer refunded my deposit without my asking. Went to a large dealer, but with no trade in and was able to deal off MSRP. Brought my coupe home last Friday.

You can buy your Corvette anywhere in the world and the dealer where you live will have to work on it. If you wish them to. My concern with any little local dealer is their lack of Corvette experience. My salesman in 20 plus years of selling at this dealer had never ordered a Corvette until he ordered mine. I knew more about the options, etc, than he. I would think, the service department would have the same lack of experience. With my 2001, they at that time could not mount my new tires, nor do an alignment. I didn't even trust them to change the oil. If you really want a Vette, find one, and buy it even at 100/200 miles! That is where I'd also go for service.

Total Love

You have to be so infatuated with a Corvette to be willing to drive hundreds of miles to pay $60+K and drive that far for service. That is in my mind absolutely crazy. There is no car worth it. Now maybe there is a woman worth driving hundreds of miles, but a car...I think not. I have worked and am working hard for my money and when I want to spent a big chunk of it, I expect a little convenience and maybe a little yes sir no sir and, above all, some honesty and integrity. I am done; cancelled my order for the Vette.
