1966,and a 1962 thats almost complete
So I am looking to lift a body off of a 1962 soon. And I am looking for a lift kit I can use with an engine crane.(I dont want to do the freind method as I dont have too many voulenteers) anyways all the ones I have found on line are for a 63 to 67 any suggestion on what to use?

Larry,

I just use some light chains between the deck lid hinges and the top hole on the radiator support. I cross the chains and pick up in the middle where thay cross.
Of course, this requires that you remove the deck lid and the windshield before pulling the body, but I pretty much strip the body anyway before removing it.
I just use some "S" hooks to hook in the chain and the bolt holes. You really don't need to be too worried where you pick these old straight axle bodies up at, they are built like a tank! There is no need to brace the door openings like there is on later model convertibles

Hi Larry

looks great. a quick wash and wax on the paint and you are ready for the shows!
;LOL

seriously, congrats on getting the car and now with both the frame and the body you are ready to start the heavy duty work on this project!
Have you decided what motor you are going with? sorry if you already mentioned that in a prior thread and I missed it.

Larry,

Congratulations on getting the car for your project. It looks pretty complete from the picture.

Rich Lagasse
p.s. You might want to hold onto those rear tires since winter is coming.......:D

Larry,

Someone must have hacked your pic. The pic of your 62 has been replaced with a pic of a bunch of dolls on a bed!

;LOL

Looks like a real nice body (not the dolls). At least you don't have to suffer through the paint stripping process.

Larry it looks great. You certainly know what you've got as far as the body goes. No surprises lurking under the paint. :)

Thanks every one.The car does have some issuse that need to be dealt with.

Yesterday I vacumed the car out then power washed it,removed the canvas material from the top (it was rotted and stunk)removed the seats .I am waiting on casters for a body dolly I have to weld up (Thanks John Magraw) I am going to see if the body guy can make a house call to see what glass parts I have to order.

Hey Larry,

Congrats on getting your car. Now the fun begins.

Thanks wes Now its your turn to get a frame

Well between yesterday and today I air chizzeled all of the body mounts off and the bumper bolts.Nothing came off this car easey.Today (sunday) I was able to lift the body from the old frame and set it on the new frame.

So I am all alone staring at the car and my lift thinking the lift is capeable of lifting 7000lbs some how its going to lift the body off of the frame.

I ran to my shop and picked up some chains and straps and my brother in law was hanging out So I invited him to help me.

I raised the lift and then rolled the car in the garage under the lift,I lowered the lift 2" above the windsheild.I then strapped the body to my lift I chained the front radiator support, then ran a racheting car hold down strap arounf the lift to the rocker panel by the middel body mounts, then another one by the rear of the door body mounts (I had allready used a floor jack and lifted the body off the frame by 1/2" just to make sure it was loose all of the body mounts were rusted fast to the frame so I had to break them apart one by one) Raised up the lift and the body seperated from the frame.

The only problem was that the lift would not raise high enough for the rear shock mounts to clear the body.So I removed the wheels and tires and set the brake drums on top of snowmobile roller skates (You use these to roll a snow mobile around in a garage) even with the wheels off I still had to lift slightly on the front end. Needless to say I had to do the same think to get the new frame under the body.

This is a link to some photos my wife took.

Larry, Unbelieveable. You just got the car a few days ago and you've got the new frame under it already! You're too much.
