Just wanted to let everyone know that "Traction-Masters" for C1's are back in production, and are identical to the originals except that the lower spring saddles are weldments instead of castings; pricing should be around $150-$160 for a set. For more info, contact Chuck at Traction-Master, TMCgroup@aol.com . Photo of my originals below.

That's what those are

I have traction bars like these under my 61' and have always wondered if they were just a home-made bar or whatever. Thanks, now they have a name. "Traction Masters" :CAC

Value of Traction-Masters?

I was under my 1962 today and noticed that I apparently have these Traction-Masters and one of the bars is bent. What is the value of this setup over the stock configuration? Should I replace or return to stock? The car is a respectable driver. I prefer original but would consider keeping and repairing if the Traction-Master setup provided a benefit.

Thanks,

Mike

Mike, the originals were slightly "bent" to begin with, for clearance under full suspension travel - you can see it in my photo above if you look closely. Functionally, the Traction-Masters are far superior to the factory radius rods; I'd leave them on. Mine had been on the car for 30+ years when I bought it, and when I restored it I left them in place - just replaced the bushings; when I Top-Flighted the car, it only cost me a couple of points for incorrect lower spring mounting plates. I'm just up the road from you, in Romeo. :w

Bent C1 Traction-Master Bar

John,

My passenger side bar is REALLY bent and in the wrong direction. I suspect someone tried to use the bar as a jacking point long ago. I will call Chuck at traction-master about replacement bars.

I just joined the MI Chapter of the NCRS (sent my check last week) so I will probably run into you at some point locally.

Thanks for the advice,
Mike
