Has any body switched to a regular electric wiper motor on a C1

Does any body know if it can be done?

i believe that the wiper linkage would be a problem not much room under the dash . what do youwant to do ? get rid of the cables or the odd motor set up. the ones on my car work ok after some tlc ;shrug steve

Wiper Upgrade

Larry,

I replaced the original wiper setup with one from Corvette Central. It was part #651057. The motor mounts under the dash (we mounted it in the passenger side kick panel area) vs. the original firewall location.

The only issue is that the switch itself is too large to fit in the original location. I relocated it to the center console. That might not be an issue for you since you have made a new dash pod.

Thanks Rich that looks like the ticket.Just what I wanted. I have to order that this week

Larry,

I used the same setup as Rich. I ordered it with a 2 speed switch instead of the adjustable delay switch since I had already heard that the delay switch presented a clearance challenge. The setup uses a flex cable drive that allows the motor to be mounted behind the passenger side kick panel.Surprisingly, it takes up less room under the dash than a stock cable drive. It also allows you to slick up the area where the original motor mounted on the firewall! The same company that makes the wiper system also made my power window conversion.
If you sell your original motor, mounting plate and transmissions, you should just about break even on the purchase of the new drive system. It comes with everything you need except the bezels and the chrome nuts that go on top of the bezels. You might want to call Billy Dawson, and see If he can't save you some money over CC.

PS

UPS has been to my house every day since I got the car and I still need more stuff.
Maybe you could become a UPS Store until the car is done. :L

Thanks I was just on the phone ordering my gauges.I chose a set called ultra light because they had a matching clock I could almost set in the original clock spot.who is billy dawson I will contact him tomorow. You know I am trying to figure out every thing I can to relocate off the fire wall and start closing up the holes prior to the body shop getting it so there are no mis understandings (actually I am trying to do every thing else but mount the bumpers I just cant get motivated to do that job)

John I have my wiper kit ,But I am unsure of how to start on this. I just ordered my new bezels, gaskets, and nuts. In what position do you mount the new transmissions,(cable side up) and how did you mount them? Did you just use the bezel and nut to pull them up into place and hope they dont twist. When they say "flare the tube" what are they talking about?

Larry,

It is not just the bezel nut that keeps them from turning. once the cables and the aluminum conduit tube is instaled, the two transmisions are locked together and can't turn. If you look at the clamps on each transmission and the motor, you will notice a slot in the clamp. Once your tubing is bent and cut to length, you flare the ends of the tubing with a standard flaring tool and the flare will lock into the notch in the clamps, and can not pull out.

OK I got that, but still have questions.Did you make an internal "bushing/clamp" for the inside or just slide them thru the hole and pull them uptight to the cowl area. The old transmitions had a clamp on them to stand them off the cowl area.Should I fabricate a "bushing/clamp" Did you have any photos of what you did I could veiw

Larry,

It sounds like you might have gotten an incomplete kit. The C1 Corvette kit has an angled spacer with a set screw to hold it in the correct position. I will try to take a pic of it and post it today.
