Back in the day how did the Chevy dealers replace the metal brake line that runs front to rear and the gas line that does the same? I would think they didn't block up the body to get to the top of the frame so did they just leave the old lines and run a new one tucked along side of the frame rail and the body? Are there any old Chevy mechanics out there??

1963 thru 1965 cars had the front to rear brake line routed between the frame / body, as you have noted. Changed out mine this spring (`65) - tough job without pulling the body, but it can be done. The clips holding the line are like little spring 'C' clips - to remove the old line, just grab it and gently pull. When installing the new line, the toughest part is the transition into the rear wheel well / trailing arm area. I fed a piece of 12 ga. solid copper wire in from the wheel well and wrapped it behind the flair fitting, keeping the protective cap on the flare fitting to keep out any dirt. By using the wire, I was able to push / pull the line into position by myself. Just go slooooowly.........you'll be OK :beer

Another option could be to follow the routing for the 66 /67 cars, which ran the brake line inside the frame rails.

As far as the gas line goes, the only way that I've heard of changing it on a midyear is to lift the body ;shrug

Good luck with your project !
