The repro replacement rubber grommet/plug is not slit, but I'm certain that the original was. I'm talking about the rubber around the wiring harness in the 1.75" hole at the rear bulkhead.

If you have knowledge of the original rubber plug, please describe the manner in which it is slit to allow it to accept the wiring harness and the rear antenna cable?

Use a razor blade or x-acto knife to make a clean cut. Cut completely through from the outer circumference, to the hole on the inside (in effect cutting halfway across the disc). Slide the wiring harnesses thru the slit, into the hole in the center. Once the grommett is fitted into the 1 3/4" hole, the slit will disappear if you are careful with the installation.

There is no other way to get the harnesses thru and this is how it was done originally. If it makes you feel better, you can apply a small amount of RTV black to the cut before installation. I do not recommend this, because it will be messy, and is absolutely not necessary.

Thank you Joe.

The grommet in question has two holes - the larger for the wiring harness; the smaller for the antenna cable.

Did you slit yours from the outer edge to the point between the holes - approx. 1"? Then did you slit across the 3/16" area between the holes?

Question to the Heavens...
Why in God's name can't the repro manufacturer just slit them as made? I've had a number of bad fit, poor quality parts lately that gets me steamed. :mad

I slit them with one cut. From the outer edge, in line with, and across both holes.
