Hi guys,I'm usually camped out in the C2 section but I'm now looking at purchasing a 2002,2003,or 2004 ZO6. Can someone explain any changes between those years.Or preferances of the 3 years.
Thanks all... Jim

Hi Jim,

Steel transmission shift forks replaced aluminum forks sometime in early 2003.
Fuel pump design change (w/integrated fuel filter) in late 2002.
Shock valve change for 2004.

Hope this helps.

Jim,
I don't know of too many differences other than the carbon fiber hood option in 2004. Magnetic ride suspension was introduced in 2003, but I don't think you could get it on Z06's (?).

I looked in our Tech Center to see if I could find any tidbits or press releases from 2003 or 2004, but couldn't find anything mentioned other than the hood on the commemorative 2004 edition.

If I were in the market, I don't think it would matter much to me whether it was an 02, 03 or 04, all else (miles and condition) being equal.

I think most 2002 's are running around 29 grand...and that would probably be my suggestion...(if my numbers are up to date)

That would be a great year to own...

Hud..best stock cam...and truly a great car right out of the box....

BTW>...I put the 04 shocks in my 01 for around 3 hundred...Hud for 600....cam and headers around 4grand...

Go for the 02 ...especially if your staying mostly stock...

Tons of low mileage examples over at www.z06vette.com as the owners move towards C6Z06.

Good luck

JB

Thanks all,
Since I posted, talked to a friend and he mentioned several of your topics. Also mentioned oil usage on 2001's.
Going to check out z06vette.com rite now.

Any 67 questions let me know.

(Alot of great people on this forum!! Jim

HI there,
One thing, the revised fuel pumps took place mid production 2003, with the integral fuel filter.
Changes to the shocks for 2004 give a much improved ride and handling.

Hi folks -

The only thing I can add to what is already here is that GM tweaked the PCM and leaned out the 2004's only.

They seem to benefit less from aftermarket tunes than do the earlier models.

Speaking from experience I can tell you that the 04 Z goes perfectly next to a '67, last of the C2 and last of the C5 back-to-back. Nice combo.

Hi Jim -

The newer the better - the refinements kept coming until the last model year.

That said, I have a 1999 and a 2002 and both are trouble free and wondderful cars.

It boils down to what you want to spend - the newer cars go for more, but are not necessarily any better than a little older car.

In 2001 the standard cars were bumped up 5 hp to 350 rated. Not much of a real-world impact on dyno's though.

best regards -
