Anyone know what the rubber cone shaped firewall/engine compartment plugs are called and where you can get them new?

Thank you,
Doug

Hi Tigernut,

LICS has them in their online catalogue on page 12 item 30B for a set of 7 Insulation Retainer Rubber Plugs

http://www.licorvette.com/

Hope this helps:D

Thanks Fuelie, I was looking in the wrong location. That's what I need.

Tip - Order more than you need, as you'll probably damage some while installing them. Dip them in a 50-50 water/soap solution first (Joy, etc.), use a round-shank Phillips screwdriver as a tool to start them through the dash mat and firewall, and have a helper on the engine side pull on them with duckbill pliers while you push from the inside until they're seated.

Yes, yes and yes again. I learned the hard way.

By the way, if you're thinking of buying the "special" installation tool, just take an old screwdriver and cut it off to about 2.5" long (plus handle). Yes, that's what they'll send if you order one. :eek

I used wire used for tying rod for concrete. I formed and twisted it around the small end causing it to collapse. On the end I formed a looped in the wire. I then poked the looped end through the insulation and firewall and just pulled it through.

Hope this helps!
