I was thinking of putting in a Edelbrock Performer RPM E-Tec 430 HP engine... but many people are telling me to get an LT-1...
right now im pushing a v6
:duh

Do you mean the original LT1? or the one put in the later`s C4`s?

Which is best????

Either the 1971 LS6 (454/425hp) or
the 1969 L71 (427/435hp). :D

tom...

Any LT-1...
I just got my vette and im only 17
i dont know to much about the engines
my 18th birthday is coming up in 4 weeks..
and im probably going to get a new engine
im looking for one that will help me get on my way
to having the vette go 0-60 in around 5 seconds
right now it goes 0-60 in about 8 seconds
I just want to show everyone in my area
that muscle cars are the best...
all i see in new york are rice burners
preludes, civics, integras, ect
...price dosnt matter (engine wise)

"wow" wish i were in your shoues ? not shure witch vet you have but from your handel it sounds like a 76? for the money it would be hard to beat the GM preformance shop crate engines that GM is offering. the ZZ4 or the Fast burn 350 V8's with a four speed and 4.11 gears and deasent tires should meat your goles or if you realy want to make your vette flly go for the 502 hp 502 ci BIG BLOCK or 502 ram jet big block and a fore speed automatic trans with 3.08 gears. you would get 0 to 60 in less than 5 and top speed would better 160. you would need to make shure that your vette was in top shape and your brakes and tires was up to the task. good luck.:cool :cool :beer

If you can get a 502 just make sure the rest of the drivetrain can hack it or else BIG TROUBLE.

But the ZZ4 would be a really good choice for your car.502 would be nicer tho:)

Engine Choice - Keep It Real

Given the following:

-You have a small block car

-Your not a mega-wrench

-You likely want to drive the car as your daily driver...

I'd suggest going with one of the GM carburated crate engines. They are reliable, make a ton of power, don't take a ton of work to install and come with a warrentee.

Big blocks are great fun, but for a daily driver, 10MPG may not be your thing and converting a small block car to a BB car means stuff like changing the front springs, radiator and other misc. bits of the car.

The ZZ4 (GM p/n 24502609) and Fastburn 385 (GM p/n 12496769) are the best choices.

The Fastburn 385 can be easily upgraded to a 430HP engine with a GM Hot Cam installed in it.

I'm not a big fan of Edelbrock cylinder heads and I'm unfamiliar with their warentee.

I do *not* recommend you install a fuel injected engine in the car. Significant changes to the fuel, electrical and cooling systems are required. Stick with a carb engine for your first swap and get some time with a wrench in your hand before attempting a fuelie conversion.

Bonus:
both the ZZ4 and the Fastburn 385 are on sale through November 30 by GMPP dealers.

PS: No Corvette has ever come from Chevy with a V6 under the hood.

Thanks for Your Help...
Damn Mako.. YOur car is beutiful... loving the color and the rims
What do you run a quater in?
Did you ever put that on a dyno?

Mako! Remember the 50's? 6 Cylinder was available. I think it was 3 years 53 54 55 (55 started the option to V8)

But your right no V6's they were all I-6's

Your welcome and thanks for the compliments :)

I happened to grab a copy of the current Edelbrock catalog last weekend at the NHRA races. I looked up that 430HP engine in the catalog, and discovered it's built on a GMPP ZZ short block assembly with an all Edlebrock top end.

My Vette runs 12.2s at 119MPH on the street tires. I haven't bolted on a pair of slicks yet, it'll run a high 11 when do, assuming I can drive the damn thing properly. I'm not a great 1/4 mile driver, my shifts are too sloooow.

The engine made 488HP on the engine dyno. It made 392RWHP on a Dynojet before I did any tuning to it. It's likely pushing around 410RWHP now since I've made some fairly large tweaks to the setup since then.

Click on the photo, it's a link to my www.caspeed.com home page.

Of course, the Blue Flame Special they called it. That was before GM figured out where they were going with the Corvette as a production automobile. Thank goodness for Zora :)

as far as the best c3 engine, that would be the 69 L88 of course ; ).

StarFX-What about the ZL-1 the greatest Corvette engine of all!

FWIW, Chevy is once again making the ZL-1 blocks. It's entirely feasible, if very expensive, to build your own ZL-1 engine again.

Cool :)

Re: LT-1 Engine is my vote

This one belonged to my neighbor Dale. He regrets selling it. It had the original (but gone-over) LT-1 engine producing 375 Hp at 5,280 feet of altitude, convertible, and original side pipes (worth alot by themselves).

In it's day the high revving LT-1 was an amazing engine, however modern cylinder heads, intakes and cam grinds are simply far superior.

If your building a vintage road racer, show car or restoring an original NCRS car, then the LT-1 certainly is a excellent idea.

However for a modern day hotrod or race car, there simply is no reasonable excuse not to use the new whiz bang parts. You get much more power for your money, as well as trimming a ton of weight off the nose of car thanks to the aluminum alloys.
